Devilatlarge (U7903429) posted Apr 9, 2007 It is not actually too much of a surprise. Manchester United went into the Pompey game exhausted having gone to Rome, and having to play much of that game with 10 men. They were without G.Neville and Vidic, two very important players at the back, and for some reason unknown to me, Fergie decided to start Fletcher and Richardson instead of Solksjaer and Giggs. Today Pompey faced a Watford team that may not have beaten any of the top 4, but apart from Liverpool, they pushed every team close and it took late goals by Arsenal and Chelsea to defeat them, Watford are an energetic team and are no pushovers, Pompey on paper are superior but perhaps that win against Man U took a lot out of them and hence they underperformed today. It will be interesting to see how Watford do without Foster next season.

mesmerizingmaverick (U7415343) posted Apr 9, 2007 Just goes to show that fatigue can really takes its toll. United were really exhausted after the defeat in Rome. Pompey on the other hand had enough time to prepare and thus managed to beat United who were really thin at the back anyway. Now when it's Pompey's turn to be tired due to the prior game i.e. against united, they crumble as well. Simple. So pompey fans, don't get too excited that u managed to beat united.

joedms (U7929850) posted Apr 9, 2007 i have a watford season ticket and they've played quite well this season. foster has saved us a dozen points, but we miss marlon knig a lot, he would have scored us at least 10 goals this season. when mahon plays well, the whole of watford play well, i know it sounds like a lame excuse, but it's true. i think they'll make man utd battle next weekend, but man utd will win 2-1, with bouazza scoring.

smilered (U4745395) posted Apr 10, 2007 Absolutely Fab my boys. Just what the doctor ordered. I really thought this was going to be the day that David James was going to get his clean sheet record, going on the luck we have had but boy was I wrong. A cracker even though at times I was watching with my hands over my eyes as I remembered that awful 3-3 draw with Fulham early in the season. Agonizing over the fact that we were 3-1 up but still loads of time left.

yellotoyou (U2901058) posted Apr 10, 2007 Great performance and great result. Mahon did play well and it all bodes well for next weekend. Don't be too sure of yourselves utd. the cup is not he league and when Watford perform as well as they did yesterday on Saturday then no doubt the "we were exhausted from Tuesaday's match" excuse will be rolled out again...
