End of the road for Scarborough FC?

Non League
comment on the article

Scarborough Football Club are facing closure at the end of the season because of spiralling debts.

Administrators have petitioned for the Conference North club to be shut down at the end of the season.

That is, unless somebody can force a rescue attempt.

I'd like to hear your views about how the club can be saved, probably with the help of people in the town and the Seadog Trust which was recently set-up to help run the club.

With no money, a sanction placed upon them to stop them buying players and a 10 point deduction, i've been impressed by Scarborough's resilience to want to stay in the Conference North this season, and i hope they still can. It's been a pleasure to play a team such as Scarborough. I just hope someone steps in to save the club. Neil Warnock?

Pretty much the same thing are happening to my home town, Farnborough Town. They've managed to do well despite -10 points. If not for that ****ed up rule, they'd be just below the play offs. How the bloody hell does that rule help any club? Farnborough might have been able to get out of debt if they got promoted and I'm sure it's similar with Scarborough. Let's just hope something's done to save both these clubs. And Lancaster Town, they're in that situation too. Don't just focus on one club when there's others in a similar problem.

Like it or not, football is a business as well as a game, and if a club is not run effectively then this is the kind of thing that can so easily happen. Unfortunately, this wont be the last time that a club like Scarborough will go to the wall.

There is far too much money floating around at the higher levels of the game and it's a great shame that the smaller clubs like Scarborough always seem to be walking a financial tightrope.

Hopefully they, or any other club who suffers the same fate, can regroup, reform and resume competitive football having learned from the bitter experiences of the past.

Its an old story: big businesses (and rich people) go on getting bigger (and richer) and dont give a spud for the littler ones.

But that dont change the fact that, if they lack the power to force the rich to help out, then the FA, who have done nothing but make the situation worse with the 10pt deduction, should pack up and go home!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Ask John Russell why he let the club go to ruin.

Way back in the 1950s my Great-Grandfather was Chairman of Scarborough Town Football Club. In those simpler times, he often had to dip his hand into his pocket to keep things going. I have kept an eye on their progress (or sometimes lack of it) for as long as I can remember.

I am naturally saddened to see the current plight of The Boro and wonder if any local people feel that there is anything that football fans elsewhere can each do on a practical level to help? After all, a little help from a lot of people will mount up and may keep the club going.

Hi,
Very sorry to here about the troubles of scarborough football club, I think it is about time the owners of larger rich clubs take a look at what is going on in the lower leagues and start helping these sort of clubs out before clubs go bust and town like scarborough are left with no clubs for supporters to go watch weik in week out.Teams are going to fade away and we will end up with one rich league which nobody will be able to go watch as it will be too expensive.Come on rich folk help these teams out before it is too late

I heard that Farnborough were in a lot of trouble too... and just think not long ago they played Arsenal at Highbury and scored!!!
SOmething has to be done about these poor clubs, my local club exeter city was in a lot of trouble until recently. I actually agree with a group of supporters taking over the club - if 30 keen supporters did it with money put in then passion would be higher
