Manchester United VS Roma

European Football Manchester United
comment on the article

Team news:

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has sprung a surprise by including Louis Saha and Darren Fletcher in his squad to face Roma.

The pair have been out for five weeks with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively and were expected to play for the reserves on Thursday.

However, they have both travelled to Italy for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

Park Ji-Sung has been left behind because of an unspecified injury.

Defenders Gary Neville, Patrice Evra, Mikael Silvestre and Nemanja Vidic are all out of the tie, while Roma will be without midfielder David Pizarro, who is serving a one-match ban.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Man Utd (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Heaton, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Heinze, Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Fletcher, Eagles, Giggs, Richardson, Rooney, Saha, Solskjaer, Smith, Dong.

What will the final score be. It will be hard to predict as man utd are not the strongest of teams in the champions league but roma was the best tie man utd could have possibly got. Roma have a strong side and could have the upper hand due to manchester uniteds injury problems. The next time they meet it will be a more fiery atmosphere between the two teams.

Man U was just superb. It was unfortunate that Scholes was sent out. Roma knows and felt that we are in a class of our own. They should wait for a great game in return

Prior to the match, Fergie said "we must score". He did not say we must win. United did what they set out to do even if it was ugly. Some people thought United was poor, lacked fluency....I agree. But that is highly appropriate strategy when you are a man down especially the man at the heart of your midfield. I commend United for achieving their goal under very difficult circumstances. They adapted well. However, I am very disappointed with VDS. The second goal reminded me of Howard's error in the home game against Porto that sent United packing and Howard packing. He had time to push that ball into the corner. He didn't. And that is poor for someone of his stature.Yea, Brown scored again against his side. He did that in Europe a few years ago and Manchester lost. Talk about lightning striking twice - "VDS Howard" and Brown!

No liljobs, I would like to say that this is why I found it difficult to look on series-A, did any one look on have easy both Tootie and Wilhelmsson whit no problem what so ever (after what look like if somebody had cut there leg's minimum) could continues ¨playing the match. No Scholes is not stupid but it's so easy specially in Italy to getting the referee to do stupid thing's specially whit a full stadium.

I really hope that FC Roma show their roman spirit today and beat this apparent dominant team of the past decade, Wayne Rooney should be playing for Everton and would rather chelsea or liverpool won it. no leeds or bradford in champions league unfortunately.
