Holding England and South Africa to such slim Run margins continues to be an amazing feat. The Test teams are truely getting tested !!

Sri Lanka will absolutely destroy england, england effectively start the game at like 40-3 because their top three aren't playing well at all. Sri Lanka have Murali, Jayasuriya, Jayawardene, Sangakkarra, Vaas, Malinga and Dilshan is playing well and so is Arnold and Silva.
Sri Lanka have 3 amazing bowlers, Malinga if playing well is unstoppable but if playing badly can go for a few runs. Vaas - Economical and a wicket-taker.
England are basically relying on three players to win the game for them, Collingwood, Flintoff, Pietersen.
Verdict: Sri Lanka win by miles
SA Aus NZ and SL all go through to the semis, just a question of who comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

Ireland did well despite setting a total that was much smaller than it should have been. Perhaps now people will realise that England's win - proportionately larger than South Africa's - was not such a poor one after all. England also have a significantly better net runrate than South Africa now, but and this is worrying, substantially poorer than Australia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand. If it comes down to two or three teams level on points that may be a critical factor.

I have a good feeling about today's game. I hope that England don't let me down.

The England squad is made up of experienced, full-time professional cricketers. The Kenya, Ireland and Canada teams comprised (mostly) good amateurs with little or no First Class experience. It is doubtful whether more than three or four of the players in these teams could make the grade at County level. England's performance in these matches was woeful. A good English club side would probably win against Ireland and Canada nine times out of ten and probably give the Kenyans a run for their money. Let's face it - England is a piss poor ODI outfit, inconsistent and performing way below their real ability far too often. True they beat the Kiwis and Aus in February - this showed that they CAN do it. They must do this today against the Lankans who won 5-0 last time around (and in England too!)

Long stop, you can talk about that 5-0 until the cows come home. It was a pitiful low point. However, the current England side has only ONE player in common with that outfit. The bowling attack was woeful against Sri Lanka. There is no evidence whatsoever, even at its worst in Australia, that the current England side is anything near as poor as that one.

Long Stop

Your profile says you are a sports writer! Surely someone who has a regular column would write "Let's face it - England is a piss poor ODI outfit". Poor use of the English language and and I have never seen a sports writer using the phrase "piss poor"!!!

However, i do agree that Sri Lanka will win today, they are a good one day team and England just score too slowly to cause them worry!

Cricketing_stargazer, thanks, I did actually go and download the D/L "rules" after posting that comment, and now think I fully understand D/L. I think however its still not right, and is too complex for what it needs to be. I worked on an alternative for a while, but gave up!
