Wembley hosting the playoff finals !!

League One Nottingham Forest
comment on the article

So its official now, the playoff finals will be played at the new Wembley Stadium.
I want automatic promotion more than anything and that won't change, but imagine getting to the playoff finals in front of 90,000 people in the new national stadium!!
What are your thoughts all on this one?

Play Offs are alas a brainchild of the accountants...they make no sense...in a league!

A league is won over the entire season and so are the subsequent places..ie if you finish 3rd 15 pts ahead of the team in forth and so on..why on earth should you play anyone below you to be promoted....in fact the team in 3rd and their fans play lotto with a seasons efforts just to let the team in 6th up.....exciting yes! fair in terms of a league..criminal...but if the those who governed football didn't get a pay day from venues and TV...you can bet they would never have taken place.

Worst still is Rugby Unions RFU making the team that wins the title..and has been the strongest over the given season..having to play the also rans in a one off to give the bumms Their title...

i completely agree with this, especially the csae in the guiness premiership. but for the championship sides and below, i think that playoffs ARE a good idea, beacuse

1 - it makes it more important to try to advance up the league into the play-off places. Achieving seventh place IS important and it prevents mid-table teams from having no motivation.

2 - it makes it more important for the top teams to get automatic promotion.

Wembley is the home of football. Cardiff have done the job of hosting major cup finals over recent years admirably (except for allowing me to be on the wrong end of the LDV vans final result last year!), but the pitch at wembley is solely for football, not rugby. Even on pitches used occasionally, this makes all the difference.

I know the idea was rubbished when it was put up some time ago but I would extend the play-offs to SIX teams - in the Championship, first and second place go straight up and teams finishing 3rd - 8th in the play-offs.

Round 1 - 5th v 8th and 6th v 7th (each tie one game only and the higher placed team plays home.
Semi Finals - 3rd v 6th or 7th and 4th v 5th or 8th - same structure again.
Final either at wembley or home of the winner of the 3rd v 6th/7th semi-final.

This way there will be advantages to how high you finish in the table.

I think this is bad because Southampton may be distracted by it. If we get into the playoffs then this is the best news!

Love it! I look forward to going, though I hope my team Birmingham City don't need the play-offs!

I like the playoff system. To be honest I wish we did it in Scotland.

the good thing about the play-offs at wembley is that the lower league clubs supporters get a day out because, they are the loyal supporters and it might upset all the prawn sandwich brigade he!he!

The play-offs are an inspirational idea. Managers who complain like Joe Royle who moan about them are misguided - everybody know the rules at the start of the season, 3rd means nothing if you can't win the play-offs. Long may they continue!

ERRR hello, THE CONFERANCE FINAL TOO

do you choose to miss the 5th professional league in England through ignorance or choice, or is all totally money related. To be honest I am shocked that you have missed this important day (see my article Stevanage Boro)

This has to be one of the most important play offs, promotion to the football league, how many times can a player or team do that?

Come on BBC dont let us guys down!!!
