Lara can't complain about low turnoverOne-day internationals West Indies by Touchdown (U1945175) 29 March 2007 Look at the performance of West Indies team in this worldcup so far. Even though they won 3 prelim matches, their performance doesn't look too entertaining, I would say lackluster at best. Then why Mr.Lara is complaining that spectators are not turning up for WI games? Why can't he encourage his team to play better cricket to draw the crowds? Soulberry (U2827905) posted Mar 29, 2007 Gayle and Chander's form has made the difference for WI. Maybe there's also something else going on we aren't privy to...their body language suggests dispiritedness.

Andy2806 (U7925176) posted Mar 31, 2007 team selection should have kept taylor in the side. also sarwan should bat at 4 bcoz that has been where he has been at his best in one day cricket. if lara wants 2 bat at 5 then move sammuels up to 3.

richa3s (U2355809) posted Mar 31, 2007 Who seriously expected the West Indies to challenge for the Trophy anyway? They have barely made any impression in world cricket since Walsh and Ambrose retired. Lara is their one class act, Chanderpaul usually toughs it out, but the rest such as Gayle, Sarwan and Samuels are far too inconsistent. As for the bowlers, the days of Marshall, Holding, Garner and Roberts, Walsh and Ambrose grow ever distant!!

astonishingreddevils (U7963320) posted Mar 31, 2007 Who else is Lara going to blame beside himself and his players? These are handsomely paid players who are more concerned with money than cricket. There is also a rumour going around in Antigua that certain players were out partying very late in the morning hrs before the matches in Antigua. If this is true, then management and the players should be fined. It's only when they start to feel it in their pockets they'll try to do better. It's really sad to see the Windies deteriorate this way. The fact is, the right team was not selected for the world cup. What more must Sylvester Joseph from Antigua do to cement a place in the team? He's successfully captained the West Indies A team and still cannot get a place in the team. The way the Leeward islands players are treated is atrocious. As for low turn out in Antigua, Mr Lara and the WICB know that Antiguans will not pay money to see a side that has no representation from Antigua or the Leewards. This has been the case for years during Test matches in Antigua. It's not something new. When our players get the same treatment as other territories, then we'll show up to support the team.

expertcricketfan (U7964662) posted Mar 31, 2007 West Indies team needs an attitude adjustment and more discipline. These guys come out to play as if there lack sleep or are upset. They don’t like they jell – you look at the Aussies, Sri Lanka or Ireland and when they take a wicket they all rally around and you can see the excitement. Other teams fight to the end but WI doesn’t get wickets fast enough and everyone is down. We need better leadership and incentives for the youth to be encouraged to play cricket. This is the worst team anyone would expect to see at this level. What happened to the mighty West Indies?

TriniGilly (U7968417) posted Mar 31, 2007 I think that you may well have something there. The body language is negative, and words are now being exchanged between Lara and Andy Roberts.......and regarding the article with TB....Lara should get what Lara wants! What have we got to lose! Only, Lara obviously does not get what Lara wants;if he did we might just be in a better place. Comment on this article |
