International football England
comment on the article
Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has been ruled out of England's match against Andorra in Barcelona because of a cracked bone in his wrist.

Give your reaction to this news, what midfield set-up would you like to see now that Lampard is absent?

flingit, you were still in education.

Rooney is in a profession. This isn't playtime, it's a job, a career. (And a dream one for some I'm sure) Some start work at 16 and end up with more maturity. Because they've actually started, you know, work.

Even then, they can be immature all they want outside of work, but at work they do their job professionally.

Again to use my super example:

Micheal Owen understood what being professional was about. He didn't fail us in 1998. A certain other immature person did.

2 different immature persons did, in '06 and '98.

Right, I was only referring to 98's. Beckham. He responded in the right way to his mistake because we made sure what he did was wrong. (Although death threats went too far)

Rooney in 06', we try to excuse him and still do so. Every game. He won't ever grow up if we spoil him like this.

Although this has turned into a Rooney/bring back Beckham board, the original discussion was on Lampard. Here's an article about his omission in The Times today (I've also posted this on the McLaren board):

"McLaren's position has been further undermined by his handling of FRank Lampard's omission from last night's team, with the Chelsea midfield player so upset about being dropped for the first time in three years that he considered flying home to London." (OK, at least he wants to be out there. Sure people will pick on him, but remember - he stayed and watched in the end. Bet he wished he hadn't!)

"While represenatives of Lampard and McLaren claimed that he was left out because of a fractured bone in his wrist, sources inside the camp confirmed that his omission was to make room for Gerrard to play in the centre of midfield.

"Lampard had toldthe coaches that he was desperate to play even though he was suffering pain from the injury and was ready to run out with a cast on his arm." (Probably worried he wouldn't get his place back!)

"He was crushed when McLaren pulled him aside yesterday morning and told him that he would not be playing so that Gerrard could move into the middle and Stewart Downing could come in on the left wing.

"It was agreed that all public statements would refer to the injury, but Lampard is expected to be available to face Watford at Vicaridge Road this Saturday."

So, according to 'sources' - Lampard was dropped. If they're right, McLaren has got the guts to drop 'star' players (another 3 months, and another struggler may go!) - but why lie about it to the public?

>> but why lie about it to the public?

credit to McClown for dropping him, but if practically everyone knew the real reason, he's a moron thinking they would keep the secret.

he's just made himself look even more inept by doing the right thing and trying to cover it up.

If Lampard was 'dropped', i expect him to go straight back into the team come next international. Gerrard proved that he can't cut it in the middle, not even against Andorra. Yes, he scored twice.... against part time footballers. Take away those goals and he was terrible. The number of passes of his that went out of play (especially first half) was unbelievable! I can think of at least 2 or 3 players that deserved to be dropped more than Lampard. And if he was dropped, it would give him the desire to get his place back, which im sure he will get.

Crouch have scored almost every time since his england debut, even if it is against the poor opposition ,atleast he does score. can't say that about Rooney though or any other.

Pathetic. My God Chelsea fans know how to clutch at straws. They should move to the country and take up farming.

P.S - Pass rate of Gerrard during the first half: 27 passes, 82% completion.

82% is not much for a world class player. Deco, Xavi and Iniesta reach the 90% a lot of times.
But of course, you need players around you who can help...

There is no question LAMPARD & Gerrard are both amazing midfplayers, the manner in which fans pick at everything increases the pressure and is constantly annoying to aplayer. All these players e.g. rooney, lampard, etc. before their star status play for themselves and play to the best of their ability and then get nationaly and internationally recognized for their amazing ability in the game of football. Then the manner in which people pick on them on stats, a bad game, owen goal they play under not just pressure but dont play for themselves, confidence is gone. The brazilian SAMBA the daring flicks and tricks that win games over and over does not come from a special potion or from have football blood, it comes from years of hereditory confidence and love to play the game.
