comment on the article

Its official TS is the new GB coach.

The obvious thing that i didnt even think about is that he will stay at Leeds until October to fulfil this seasons responsibilities.

So we are looking for a new coach, who will it be?

Time to place your bets!

All the best to Tony Smith, lets hope we can win some international silverware this year.

But after Leeds win the CC and Grand final that is!!!!!!!!!!!

To green jaja smith ruined leeds??? oh i get it if you win the league for the first time in 32 years 2 cup finals<ok we lost but got there> another grand final and wcc thats failure well you claim to be a fan of 37 years have you slept for the last 15 because apart from murrays 1999 cup triumph we've won bugger all so if my math is right that makes tony smith the most succesfull rhinos coach for thirty odd years! last year was crap but injuries and loss of form are NOT all the coaches fault we are joint top at the moment and this IS the most unpredictable season yet, so get off his back and support HIM and the team good luck tony and all the best!!

It's a farce picking a foreign coach, once again the British coaches have been kicked in the groin.
RL are a bigger farce, i have watched it less since Lewis was given the job there, and the idiot is proving more and more that should have stuck with tennis.

The big problem with GB Rugby league is that too many second rate Aussies play in our league. The likes of Trent Barratt or Jamie Lyon or indeed Matt Gidley are fine.

We have a 1st 13 that can play against the best it is just when anyone member get injuried we struggle i.e. Sculthorpe.

The worst exponent of this was Brian Noble with around 10 foreigners at the Bulls and he is doing the same at Wigan literally replacing Ashton with Withers. What does this say for the future of British RL??

Their should 2 foreigners allowed to play in each super league Team. Forget about this Kolpak ruling this in itself restricts trade.

Well i suppose Schofield had to open his mouth and enter the debate. After such a glittering and successful career, his comments lack credibility, whatever his achievements as a player, and there were many, his coaching CV is a big fat zilch ! Let Tony Smith just get on with it now, the appointments been made,it`s not going to change, lets hope all GB fans get behind him and i`m sure he will be "relatively" successful given the obstacles he must hurdle ,i.e. fixture congestion, player burnout, you all know the ones. Good luck Tony Smith and whoever forms the rest of his coaching team.

I think Tony has done a great job at Leeds and taken us from being the constant bridesmaids to being on the verge of something big. We have some of the best youngsters in the game who should be pushing for International caps soon. But I also feel that this season was the end of the line for him.

We seem to have lost our shape and that attacking flair we saw in 04. Granted it's the start of the season and we're joint top but there's certainly been a steady decline since we went to Saints in 05 and played the game 'up the middle'. It didn't work that night and it hasn't worked since.

I think he'll make a good International coach. People can say he has no experience but who does until they do it? He's working with top class players each week, now it's just a case of building the GB team from the bottom up. Hopefully he'll bring in changes to the structure of the game, let's bring in the Roses Series and get rid of these extra games.

As for the next Leeds coach? Big Brian would bring back the passion. Shaun has been there and done it all, and Justin has shown his potential it would be interesting to see what he could do with a decent squad.

I think Tony Smith will do a very professional job with the GB team. Nobby's outlook always felt a little biased to his own players, overlooking Leeds talent in place of his own. I think Tony Smith will pick through pure ability and performance, he is a perfectionist.
I also think Gary Schofield has been sucking the sour grapes in his comments. Yes he was a great Leeds servant but his own indiciplines should tell him that the professionalism in the game now is of a far higher standard than he had to adhere to.

'Good on yer' Smithy.

To be honest I cant see either Brian McDermott or Justin Morgan taking the Leeds job.
I think both will want to improve their sides, and go on and win something with them.
My money is on Mcrae.

I must agree with with madbullmick, shaun mcrae would be my choice, but what about Barrie McDermott? Leeds legend has the respect of the players, you may mock that he hasn't the experience, but that didn't stop them appointing Daryl Powell, and we know what he did, nothing!!
