I think we're all hoping for a massive turn around since the appauling the boring spain game. The way which a team plays refelcts the managers skills. It's been a while since i saw england do high-tempo great moves in a game. And i think we'e alla sking the same question: Where's the passion?

Firstly there are a few question marks over the latest squad selection i.e nugent.

I don't know why SWP, jenas and dawson have suddenly been dropped?
Also (and i'm not just saying this as a spurs fan) why does mclaren constantly choose johnson to start over defoe. Defoe is fast, skillfull and scores goals.

Hopefully the team this weekend will be:

robbo
caragher terry ferdinand cole
gerrard hargreaves lampard lennon
rooney defoe

If johnson starts, if he is brought off for nugent i think i'll flip!

jzswindon-he didnt score atall in the major tournament quarter-finals and wasted all the free-kicks not to mention the pathetically inept penalties in euro2004 which cost us so much.

"Nugent doesn't even play in the Premiership!"

So what? I'd pick the Accrington Stanley front line if they showed any pride and passion in playing for England.

cluedweasel:

As important as passion is, you can't include players who haven't even competed in Europe before. It's a completely different style of football.

Yeah! I remember being at the City Ground watching Forest playing in the European Cup as it was then. They didn't do that well because of their lack of European experience.

ArgyleBear:- Apologies to anyone who may have already raised this point, but if there's any truth to the Sun's article, then it goes a long way towards explaining why Lampard and Terry, along with several other big England egos, save their worst performances for when they are lucky enough to be wearing an England shirt.

Message to Lampard and Terry... you were supposed to be focussed on winning the match and helping England qualify, not to have one eye on the match and one eye on your bank account. When you play for England leave your considerable greed at home and focus on giving England and its fans 100%.

The other point is, you are both already on around £100kpw, isn't that more than enough? Or won't you be happy until ordinary fans are priced out of seeing the teams they love?" I AGREE WITH THAT 1000%!!!! Football is becoming a rich persons game and true die hard, hardcore are struggling more and more to get to go as they can not afford it!!!

"fourcorbies:- Our lack of strength is in the depth of experienced quality English players right across the pitch, leading to complacency and arrogance and lack of zest. This is borne out in the lack of signing of the national anthem. We need a club policy limiting the number of foreign playing players." I AGREE HERE!! Sky Sports ran a big article on thurs/friday about clubs Academies and why they are failing to unearth great new talent.. COST of running it and the cost of buying in imports. THESE RICH BIG CLUBS AND PLAYERS NEED TO START TO THINK BACK WHERE THEY HAVE COME FROM AND GO BACK TO GRASS ROOTS LEVEL AND BRING THE PASSION BACK INTO ENGLISH FOOTBALL AGAIN!!! Scotland, Northern Ireland even Andorra are more passionate about playing for their country than most of our current "internationals"!!! Fans and players alike should ALL sing the national anthem. we were taught both verses at junior school. They should be re-taught it. In rugby union almost every english player sings it same with cricket.

I just despair at Englands chances in Euro 2008 with that clown McClaren in charge, how can any fans get excited about our prospects in the tournament? The outcome is inevitable we will have a couple of mediocre performances where we just about scrape the points and then when we meet a half decent team its good night England again....what I want to know is who are these die hard England supporters who pay out hard earned money to watch a bunch of passionless millionaires, managed ,and I use the term loosly,by a grinning fool continually embarrass the nation.

Maybe so, but Nugent didn't play, so I'd hardly blame the loss on him. I hope they use him as a sub in the Andorra match - he might actually be able to score, something our regulars are unable to do of late.

Rooney McClaren row; you know, coaches are known for getting on players, this is a bit of a test; as to McClaren's reins; not Beckham's, not the Sun's, none of us here, McClaren; stand and deliver. We know about Keane and his problems in 2002 with Ireland and McCarthy. Now he's Sunderland's coach. I read one version but I'm unsure. Time for the TEAM to deliver; meaning right down to the water boy.
