Start of an era, what do you mean? WI will play every team in the Super Eight except the team the second team coming from its group.

Hi SpeakingCivilised, yeah, what I was trying to say was that now that either Ireland or Zimbabwe will be the other team going through from the Windies group, all the other teams in the Super Eight will have a potentially easy game against either of those two 'minnows' - whereas the Windies will potentially have to play all their Super Eight games against non-minnows.

start_of_an_era - Doesn't matter. Assuming the Windies beat Ireland they will carry the points over into the Super 8 stages, so there is no advantage/disadvantage.

On a seperate note. Chanderpaul? Brilliant against Pakistan and India earlier this year, now dreadful. What game does he think he's playing? Boycott would have been bored watching him!

Re: Australia, they have already beaten the Netherlands, so have won two matches in their group, which is enough to see them through

Not so.

If Scotland beat South Africa and the Netherlands and SA beat Australia, Australia could fail to qualify.

That won't happen, of course.

Well, according to the Group table, Australia have played 2 and won 2 in their group, as they have beaten the Netherlands already, by 229 runs I think it was. So with 4 points, surely they have already qualified?

No. Because if Scotland beat SA and the Nertherlands, they will have won two.

Then SA beat Australia, and they have won two.

Similarly, England group could end with Kenya, NZ and England all tied on 2 wins.

And is is PROBABLE that India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh all tie on 2.

So all three of those groups could, in theory, be decided on run rate. Though in practice Scotland aren't going to beat the Saffers today.

If SA don't lose today, Aus are through.

Of course doh. Sorry, I misread your first post, where you said ...'and the Netherlands and SA beat Australia'. I'm not awake today. Although I would have thought that even if Scotland win their two matches, it would be unlikely their run rate would match Australia's anyway. But I agree, Scotland won't win, so it's all academic

Do you think Sarwan is back to form?

He and Shiv seem to go through these periods when either they are dreadful or brilliant and defiant.

I think Sarwan and Chanderpaul is back in form.Sarwan has been out of the game because of injury. The last few matches he played has shown me that his confidence has been regained.
