Stanley Park update...

Premiership Liverpool
comment on the article

Our new owners have apparently halted all work as they are looking at the plans to see if they can improve on the 60,000 capacity.

As a pool fan, I find this to be great news.

We as Reds fans all feel that 60k was too small for our support, we can no doubt hit 80,000 on home games, our support all over the country is unprecedented and if we want to compete with the Likes of Man U then 80k should do the trick.

Our American owners have impressed me so far as they are looking more to growth and stability than earning a quick buck.

Imagine 80,000 Kopites singing you'll never walk alone..wow!

Any thoughts?

80,000 is quite an acceptable number for a Club with LFCs fan base. I have read from a reliable Source that there is Currently 24,000 Season ticket holders at Anfield and 56,000 on the waiting List - So that is 80,000 alone never mind fans who just want a ticket on an as and when basis.

So there really is no need to debate if 80,000 is too big - its the bare minimum if anything and its great that Hick and Gillete acknowledge that 60,000 is too low.

80000 might or might not be too much but its still a crazy leap to go from 45K to 80K. Simply its not a sensible move. try how you handle 60K first and work your way up from there

How many times must you keep banging on about high waiting lists? Thats all it is, a name on the list. There's no guarantees that when it comes to actually forking out for a season ticket, these fans on the list will atually pay up for the season.

true very sensible Ryan. I think we could fill 60,000 even 65,000 for most of our games but apart from the real big games for like , Everton, Man u, and the recent barca one we might struggle to get + 70K.

see how many we get at the re-scheduled boro game. probably lucky to get 40K.

The reason they want to increase the possible capacity from 60 to 80,000 is because they know they can fill it. They wouldn't be bothering otherwise

^ i don't think we could fill an 80,000 week in week out. Man u don't sell out every game and they're top of the league and have more fans than us.

As I said above see how many we get v boro.

Utd have the average highest gate in Europe at around 70,000 ! BArca and REals average gates are around 60,000 !

Im sure Liverpool would have an average gate of at least 60,000 so i think 60,000 is too small !

60k will be ok as long as it can be upgraded easyily over the years to something over 80k and more!!!

To me the best solution at the moment would be something in the 65-70k range that can easily be upgraded over the years maybe adding another 10k or so on each of the stands !

=========================
Borussia Dortmund's average gate is above 70,000 for this season.

They're not doing very well (mid-table), so that's a drop from the 80,000 average gate they were getting a little while ago.

Not the full story.

The reason why the attendance was only 35,000 for the first two games was because the club's ticketing scheme was a complete cock up. Thousands gave up after hours of trying because the lines were jammed including my mate who is a season ticket holder.

As for fluking the Champions League, have you forgotten about 1999 alrady?

Well considering I've been up to Liverpool and was there at uni for over 3 years I can tell you that I've met and seen ppl come from all over the world to watch Liverpool games.

It makes no difference to us die hard fans if it's a premiership game,fa or carling cup game or champions league game. Most of the time we will be able to fill a 70,000 seater stadium.

We have one of the largest fan bases all over the world.

What would be the point in having a 65,ooo seater ground? It's been pointed out that there is a long waiting list and I personally know that the local ppl would not have there name on the list in the first place if they could not afford it.

To suggest that there is no gaurantee the fans would pay up is absolutely ludicrous.

Considering in recent years we havent had as much success as man utd, barca, madrid and combine that with the rise of chelsea our fans have always been there through thick and thin singing you'll never walk alone yet something inside tells me some of the fans for other big clubs are simply glory supporters.

We could easily get 80k and at least half - two thirds of that stadium will be season ticket holders. Gillett and Hicks have brought a new sense of life to the team and the city as well. Nice to see the owners looking to help the team and city and not simply spend vast amounts every year to win trophies(Abramovich)!

I've never understood that phrase "glory supporter." I mean, isn't that the whole point? Surely nobody supports a team because they want them to lose? smiley
