1/4 Finals Here We Come

European Football Manchester United
comment on the article

It wasnt the greatest of performances but we are through none the less after a disappointing few years in europe. It was as ill tempered as i thought it might be and there was a handshake between the managers at the end. Great goal, good work from ronaldo down the left and a good cross in, finished with a well placed header from the man larsson. Glad he scored on his last game for us. Andy Gray mentioned about Ronaldo not scoring in europe, im not too fussed if he's going to be setting people up like that.

Downside to the game was Silvestres injury, looked bad when he fell and you could see he was in alot of pain. No matter what the ill feeling was between the clubs i was glad to see the concern on the lille's players faces not only at the silvestre injury but when o'shea was hit in the face by the ball, i think it was keite? asking them to put the ball out of play.

Anyway along with liverpool and chelsea we are through, who would you like to see us face in the next round? and who would you like to avoid?

I'm hoping for AC Milan for quarters, Bayern Munich in the semis & Chelsea in the final.

AC Milan are still a very respected team, but they aren't having the best of seasons and lack real attacking power, so we should overcome them.

Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich would be a repeat of the 1999 Champions League Final. Even though Bayern Munich aren't performing domestically, they are a typical German team and fight long & hard. But I feel Manchester United have the attacking charisma and mental capacity to nick it from them.

A Manchester United vs. Chelsea final would be the cream on the coffee. Manchester United taking the Champions League from the fingertips of Chelsea is the topping on the cream. Chelsea have been longing for the Champions League ever since Mr Abramovich took over, and if they reach the final, they will sense that this is their season. I can imagine Chelsea have just lost the Premiership race, and will feel that this is their chance to gain revenge. But Manchester United will have the support of most of England, if not most of Europe, to snatch it away from Chelsea, as they did against Bayern Munich. It would be heartbreak for all those associated with Chelsea. Jose Mourinho would leave, along with would a few members of the Chelsea team. Chelsea supporters would be distraught to lose the title, the FA Cup & Champions League to the arch-rivals, losing their manager and possibly their best players.

I can dream can't I?

There is a real danger of everyone underestimating Roma and thinking that would be a relatively easy draw. I watched Roma beat Lyon with a masterful display and, tactically, they were faultless, which can hardly be said for Utd, as they have often been left wanting, tactically speaking, in European games. On the evidence of the games against Lille, where they were outfoxed tactically and were totally unimaginative for much of the time, I fear that, unless Fergie and Queiroz can come up with something a little more incisive, the quarter final will be as far as they will go this campaign. In all honesty, they were pretty poor last night against Lille. Their best bet would be to be drawn against Chelsea or Liverpool in my view.

I think Roma will be a safe bet. Man U tend to have it tough with Spanish teams and of course Bayern is a perennial foe.

As a Liverpool-supporter I prefer ManUtd in the Quarter. We have a score to settle.

But I'd support any team ManUtd plays.

the thing is this.. if u look at arsenal last season.. they beat juve and real madrid on the way to finals. year before, l'pool beat juve, chelsea and then milan.. as soon as we ourselves knock big teams out of the competition, as easy it gets for us to win the cup.. agree thought hat we can beat weaker teams to get into finals but the real "sense of achievement" would only come if we beat bigger names and teams!!
