WENGER LOGIC OVER PREJUDICE

Premiership Arsenal
by Fenman622 (U7041551) 04 March 2007
comment on the article

One of the Sunday papers is calling for the FA to throw the book at Wenger for the Adebayor incident last week. But Wenger seems to have a cast-iron argument for both incidents

1) The punch/intended punch.
If we assume that the two dozen cameras provide probably the most complete coverage of any area in Britain during that 90 minutes, I think all sides will agree that we can determine whether or not a punch was thrown or attempted. Wenger has stated that he can "prove" that is the case.

If he can't, he should be punished. But what if he can?

Suppose the lino was wrong. Wenger should give him the chance to apologise that he made a mistake and Adebayor's charge should be thrown out (even though he has already been punished). Wenger should then apologise to the lino and get a lesser charge.

If the lino still insists that he was right, (and the video evidence proves him wrong) then the lino cannot have seen what he said he saw. He is therefore lying.

2) Adebayor refusing to leave the field/acting aggressively
If a man is sent to prison for a crime that he didn't commit - and is then found to be innocent - the court does not send him back to prison because he held a rooftop protest.

I'd really appreciate some thoughtful honest debate from genuine football fans. To all the idiots who simply want to some up with another 'Arsenal always whinging' comment, please find a different string and leave it for the adults to debate.

what do u expect when big grown up men (CFC) play against young kids (AFC)? Just a little spark was needed to launch the whole fracas as the kids got frustrated with time.

Decisions made in real-time are entirely different and liable to error than judging from video evidence. Serves AFC right. next time Wenger shuld big up and select a more mature team than act like his kids by making such statements.

Lenelux - What does your point have to do with this argument at all? The team that Wenger has picked is not the problem - THe root of the problem is clear....

a) The Linesman refusing to admit he made a mistate and
b) The FA then claiming Adebayor as guilty without checking the cideo evidence, then charging Eboue using the Video Evidence!

Wenger picking a team of kids who are inexperienced (but yet good enough to play Chelsea off the park for the best part of an hour) has nothing at all to do with this debate. Adebayor, Fabregas, Eboue and Toure are all first team regulars - the "kids" weren't involed in the fracas at all.

What is Arsene supposed to do ? Abedayor , by video evidence , has not been guilty of hitting Lampard or Bridge. Yet, the FA who had the time and leisure to check the evidence has banned him for three games. That sentence should have been dismissed as the linesman was plainly wrong.
They, the FA should have apologised for mistaken identity on behalf of the incompetent linesman, who should be sent for an eye test.
Arsene is right to speak because he feels that his team is unfairly punished. Let the FA explain clearly the evidence behind their decision before blaming Arsene and the matter will rest.
But can they ??? if they cannot ecplain their decision, their integrity will be at stake. your ball FA, show us you can play !

Golden ole, difference is Scholes clearly aimed a punch at the Liverpool player, indefensible ! He and Fergie know it, while Abedayor DIDN'T. Hence the fuss !

The FA are like an immature child, they'll argue something- and even when they are given proof that they are in fact wrong, they will not apologise or admit they are wrong- they will continue to argue to the bitter end just for the sake 'being right'- regardless of how much evidence there is to indicate otherwise.

Oh Dear, pre-pubescent ManU fan in hilarious "why does Wenger sign kids" pun. Tragic, truly tragic. Welcome to page of debate, where intelligent (get your Mum to explain that word if its too much for you) football fans discuss the issues of the day. People can have differing opinions, but I think you'll find that other teams supporters are accepting that Wenger is in the right - others are not as is a matter of perogative. There is only one pathetic individual who has to lower the tone in such a vile manner. Dont even know why I am bothering with this reply because you probably cant even read, but heh-ho, i've written it now.

I dont usually agree with Arsene but this time i beleive he is right. The notion that the officials cant make a mistake is wrong and when they do they should appologise.
They refused to allow video evidence when dealing with Adebayor yet Eboue has been punished coz of the same video eveidence.
If u ask me its the FA which is bringing disrepute into the beautiful game.
Im a ManU fan by the way

babalao - thanks for that. Apart from a few idiots, who lapsed into mindless slagging, I think the response of the majority of true fans to this debate has been terrific

i think the FA are not been fair with all there verdict in the issue because i see no reason why only the manger that alway bring the game to disrepute, so they are the only one that makes the mistake and bad comment the official of the game are mr. know all the dont bring the to disrepute i think it high time refrees come to press confrence to tell us about the match they officiat so they can be accountable for there action at the end ofg every match. FA need to sit down and think about how to inprove officiating of matches than look for player & manger to fine for action that is not genue to the fan & players.
