Perfect Rovers Performance

Premiership Blackburn Rovers
comment on the article

Two wounded teams met at Ewood tonight, Rovers smarting from European nightmare and Arsenal having suffered Carling Cup misery.

It must be said Hughes got it spot on again. A dull battle at Ewood as it was in the game at the Emirates, that was our best chance of beating Arsenal. Not conceeding in 180 minutes after suffering 6 goals in our league meeting.

Sorry if you Arsenal fans weren't entertained, 2 cups lost, Euro exit next week and a battle with Bolton for 4th. Enjoy!

Blackburn do not have the resources available like Arsenal and have to do what they can to progress in competitions. I have watched them this season and they can be a joy to watch and also they can be hard and defensive.

We are slated in the press (especially southern rags)for being a hard team, but this is not always the case.

The blackburn performance you saw over two legs against arsenal was not how we usually play. To beat a good Arsenal team we had to change our tactics, and be defensively solid, which we were, and all credit to Hughesy for getting the team right. Albeit we rode our luck a couple of times, but you have to do that if you're a 'lesser team' trying to beat one of the 'big 4'. If you watch our game against Man City next sunday you will see a more attacking and 'entertaining' cup tie!

Last year you finished 6th, at the moment you are 10th. Out of Europe as well and won nothing for 12 years. Enjoy

If you had an ounce of football knowledge i think you'll find we won the Carling Cup in 2002 against Spurs.

We had the best 2 chances of the game - Pedersen 8 yards out from the left, and Benni's goal.
You should've had a free kick (Emerton on Ljungberg was outside the area), and a few long distance efforts from Baptista was all you could muster in the 2nd half.

You weren't good enough, get over it.

and in response to sstrange86:
It was a penalty, I watched it live on sky sports and both commentators, the studio pundits and the pitch-side commentator agreed that it was penalty.

Pedersons shot was a chance but not as good as a handful of baptistas.

Hate to nitpick but Baptista's 'handfull' of chances boiled down to him rising well in the area from a free kick when he was surrounded by at least 10 other players and a few long range shots in the second half.
Pedersons chance was a one on one situation from 8 yards out without an Arsenal defender in sight.

I really dislike arsenal fans that are so sore they need to discredit any victory over their team.

Three definite penalties - my hairy bumcheeks.

The Calvin Clein Salesman was outside the box when he was fouled by Emerton. Yes, it should've been a free kick and Graham Poll got it wrong. He often gets things wrong. But he's a human. Contrary to his ego's belief.

Just a quick reminder of the result by the way:

Rovers 1 - 0 Arsenal...

That's a RESULT, not a dispute.

Sorry, but EVERY neutral I've spoken to, including many who don't like Arsenal (in my office there are Man Utd, Bolton, Liverpool, Reading and Southampton fans, amongst others) has said that we were robbed and deserved to win by a country mile. If Blackburn had deserved to win and there were no controversial decisions, I'd say well done (although I'd still question the amount of fouling your team seems to think is necessary against us), but given the circumstances I'm afraid I can't.

If you avoid Man Utd and Chelsea in the semi-final draw, you may well make the final and end up as runners up. If you do get to the final, I hope you play better, otherwise the worldwide audience will not remember Blackburn with any affection, I'm afraid.

I can't say I'm sorry that you lost today. Your luck finally ran out!
