The Championship - who will go up?

Championship
by Paul Fletcher (U1816326) 28 February 2007
comment on the article

So, Steve Claridge in this piece thinks two of West Brom, Sunderland and Southampton will win automatic promotion from the Championship.

Do you agree?

Certainly, it could not be tighter at top - a theme explored in this piece - but I want to know who you think will go up and who will miss out - and why.

And once the top two places are settled that leaves the play-offs.

Great drama guaranteed - but are some teams better equipped for them than others?

Perhaps Mr. Claridge ( or Dobbin as he was affectionately known as when he was galloping around Molineux) should take another look at his article. Wolves have not lost in the last seven games (6 wins 1 draw) whereas the Baggies have only managed 2 wins 4 draws and lost 1. Sunderland look good, If the Saints loose tomorrow the fight for the sixth place is going to be tough. Personally Ithink it's going to be difficult to knock Birmingham and Derby off the top two perches. But it can be done. All very exciting.

i think that although it may not be all quality in this years championship it is probably 1 of the most exciting championships ever and the best league in england this year because man utd and chelsea battle in prem scunny look like league one winners and league two isn't exactly thrilling but i think its goin to the wire where the mighty derby will win it

Totally agree with Swadnod, Derby will go up as not only the best at all things you mentioned but they also have the best mascot, the best away following, the best chants, the best training ground, the best match day snacks and drinks, I could go on but I wouldn't like to go over the top.

C'mon you Rams!!!!!!

It appears that many people are stataticians.
Well heres some facts regarding the championship.
There are realistically 8 teams contending for the top two spots
Birmingham have to play 5 of the top 8
Derby 2 of the top 8
WBA 2 of the top 8
Sunderland 2 of the top 8
Preston 1 of the top 8
Wolves 4 of the top 8
Southampton 4 of the top 8
cardiff 3 of the top 8

Preston also have to play the current 4 bottom placed clubs.

Statistically Preston have the easiest run in and should collect the most of the available points at stake.
Birmingham have the hardest.
Derby, sunderland & West Brom appear to fighting for the remaining promotion spot.
Of course these are only statistics

Now as i am a Derby Fan i dont want to be towards my football side to much, but come on look where we are 1st. We won 5-1 at home to colchester and tonight (6th March) came back from 1-0 away to Norwich to win 2-1. i think Derby may win the Championship but i know we will be at least 2nd.

Birmingham and Derby will go up with West Brom.

Up the Ram

oh and we have the best away record in the championship!!!

Best away record in the championship didnt count for much at the SOL did it? If Brum beat you on friday and we beat Barnsley which could easy happen- then we are 3 points behind you.....so dont get too cocky just yet!
