David Beckham insists his move to Los Angeles will not prompt his international retirement and he still has hopes of an England recall.

Beckham has not featured for England under Steve McClaren, but turned in another eye-catching performance for Real Mardid against Bayern Munich.

The 31-year-old said: "My ambition has never changed since the age of 13, I always wanted to play for my country.

Beckham has won over Real coach Fabio Capello, who vowed never to pick him again when the England skipper opted to join LA Galaxy at the end of the season.

Would you want to see Beckham back in the England fold? What did he bring to the team? Might he be useful as a sub? Or will Lennon and Wright-Phillips keep Beckham out of the team? Give us your thoughts here.

complete garbage to suggest beckham and rooney are similar "talenst".Rooney is undoubtably out of the maradonna, best, gascoigne genius mould and only time will tell which one of those 3 his career will mirror,if any.

Beckham was a nice guy whos achievements were similar to those of david platt, another player who practised tirelessly on a limited natural ability.

Must ask about the 1st world cup comment. We`ll never know but england,in most peoples opinion, were on top of argentina before beckhams childish petulance(not the last time wed see that)sent us down the swanny.

Lets hope rooney has a far better record when his international career winds up in 10 years or so,im pretty sure it will and he`ll have at least turned up in some of the big quarter, semi and hopefully final matches england will get to in his time, something beckham never did, alas.

and seriously anyone bringing up that god dam greece match back in 1685 EVER again on these pages deserves to be shot,im sorry.

Im quite sure that if gerrard had been given 10 free-kicks in and around the box in a single match,he would have hit the target once as beckham managed. Its typical of him that he finally managed it in injury time, thus garnering maximum praise and being able to live off it for the next 5 years as youve just proved.

It continues to amaze me how any positive thing he ever does gets such widespread coverage yet other players contributions are swept under the carpet. For example if hed done what lennon did on sunday,it d be all "recall him now",LOOK AT THAT SKILL!","HOW CAN MCCLAREN IGNORE THAT!" but as it wasnt him,it gets mostly forgotten.PLus the usual suspects kkep saying he "provided" the most asists in the world cup against ecudor, trinidad or pitcairn island or whoever but never mention steven gerrard scored 2 more goals than he manged in open play-we can all play the spin game but no-one,i concede can play it like the beckham camp and his celebrity fans.

wait and see.NO england player has had an impact on a tournament like he did in 2004 in recent years, certainly not beckham.Dont forget rooney is still YOUNGER than beckham was in france 98 and we were all told to forgive him his petulance coz he was still "a kid" at 23.Give rooney time and he could be our first world talent since gascoigne.

I'm sorry...Owen...Bechham???
Good players with good sponsors, but Joe Cole cool that's someone that effects matches and England will benifit from his return then more then either of them.

joe coles got alot to prove still but i conced,if the "icon" had scored that volley against sweden in the wc(instaed of being utterly incompetent against a decent country yet again),wed NEVER hve heard the end of it.But ask any general fan about that goal and most have already forgotten it.Just imagine how many times it would have been replayed and brought up on these pages to the day if beckham had scored it,it barely needs thinking about.

You are talking about the same Joe Cole that gives the ball away more times than he actually completes a pass to someone on his own team??? This is simple if Beck's is playing well then he should be in the squad if he isn't then fair enough. The problem facing Engald is that we have an incompetent manager who clearly can't get the balance of team right. i'll put money on he still picks Gerrard and Lampard together if they are both fit against Israel. I think we all know now this partnership doesn't work.........

No I'm talking about the Joe cool Cole who's goal saved Englands butt last WC. I'm talking the Joe cool Cole who is the only player on the Egland team with creativity and dribbles round his opponents.
