Thompson To Have Surgery

International rugby England

Northampton Hooker ,Steve Thompson, is to undergo surgery to repair his damaged neck .
Regrettably this means he will be out for the rest of the season and is almost certain to miss the world cup.
Paul Grayson said that everyone was disappointed fro Steve but they would all work behind the scenes to aid his recovery.
This means Ashton is stuck with Chuter & Mears , are they World Class hookers or would you like to see someone else come into the fray?

Its a real blow for Wally, lets hope he can recover fitness and not be forced into early retirement. From a club point of view we have a good cover in the form of Dillon Hartley. As for England then alough he is young maybe Dill should be on the bench for future matches. Hopefully get some first team international experiance as well as with Saxons.

I too like the look of Hartley, from what I've seen, which is not much.

How old is he? Not sure if it is too soon.

Maybe worth trying him and having Regan on the bench to steady the ship should things go belly up.

It's no doubt a blow for Thompson, Northampton and England, as i'm sure he would have been at the world cup. I'm really not a fan of Chuter as an international player, i prefer Mears myself. Don't know how people can say he's not up to international class, when he's never really been given an opportunity.

All this does open the door for someone else though. Not sure about Hartley, think he's too young and inexperinced for the world cup, one for the future though. My choice would be Titterrell. Again people saying he isn't up to it, but if anyone has seen him play regularly for Sale, like i have, they would say different. Also, anyone remember the Northern Hemisphere v Southern Hemisphere game a couple of years ago. He was outstanding in that. I believe that given regular playing time at Sale, he would be in the England squad right now, possibly starting. Trouble is he tends to play second fiddle to Bruno at Sale.

Off the top of my head I think Dillon is 21, he was plying under 21's last season. When he has played for Saints he has done very well for his experiance and age. On the occasions he has come off the bench he has looked better than Thompson, but then he was probably carrying an injury. I only hope that should Saints go down we can hang on the young talent like Dillon.

Carling99, Paice has been dogged a bit by injury this season,
I think it'll turn out to be a choice between Hartley and Paice (if fit)

First and most sensible thing is to safeguard Steve's health.
That being said the opportunity to hit a line out jumper during the course of the world cup should not be overlooked or underestimated as a strategic advantage.

Latest news is that Jason Robinson has sustained a neck injury in training and could miss the Ireland game.

England have called up Dave Strettle. Has anyone ever heard of him?!!

What's wrong with Simpson-Daniel? I don't understand?

Hopefully Billy Whizz makes a recoverey. England will need all their big guns playing at full throttle if we are to have a chance.

Calling up Dave Strettle is inspired. Who is Dave Strettle rocksydjames asks? He has been inspirational for Englands 7's team holding the world record for number of tries in one half (5).
Calling up Simpson Daniel is the predictable kind of thing that we expect, given the right opportunity SD can finish but Strettle adds something more creative to the mix and increases Englands arsenal.
