Wales captain Stephen Jones says he has been shocked by the ferocity of the criticism following the RBS Six Nations defeat to Scotland.

"The criticism is frustrating from a personal aspect and from a team perspective," said fly-half Jones.

"I was out of Wales for two years (playing for French side Clermont Auvergne) and you sometimes forget how much rugby is in the spotlight here."

Wales coach Gareth Jenkins has accused sections of the press of having an "agenda" to see Jones dropped from the side in favour of James Hook.

But Jenkins has kept faith with Jones for Saturday's visit to face unbeaten France, and the captain says he is determined to prove him right.

Do you agree with Steve Jones's comments? Do Wales deserve their criticism? Should Hook replace Jones?

The Welsh media and supporters need to get behind their team otherwise they will destroy any chance they have in beating an in form French side.I can understand Stephens reaction as this must be a shock for him and Gareth to be subjected to some inept comments in the newspapers. Why blame the captain for the packs poor performance in Scotland?Stephen was playing behind a beaten pack and is expected to work miracles!!He has had to nuture two young players Chris and James who have been disappointing in the red shirt of Wales and is still expected to produce a good performance himself.Who did play well against the Scots?
Stephen in both the Ireland and Scotland games tackled superbly well and if it was not for his last ditch tackle on Patterson the score in Scotland would have been worse. In fact it is Stephen Jones that has scored all Wales points this season and the media and some supporters want to axe him!Gareth is right not to play Hook at 10 he is not ready we need a good platform up front before a young inexperienced/talented player can be thrown into the 6 nations competition. We need Hook to develop alongside Stephen so he can take over the the number 10 shirt after this World cup.On Sunday morning i hope we shall be hailing Gareth and Stephen as the Kings!!

Oh dear Wales are in trouble. Of course they are- there forwards have been dire. As for Jones- he is the most overrated Fly Half in the Northern Hemisphere! Wales have not had a decent 10 for ages..... Jonathan Davies I reckon. Yes, I know Jenkins has the record for international points but the guy played 87 Tests! If Jonny plays that many and keeps his average points up(15 points per game) he would have 1305 test points! That is class! Get Hook in for crying out aloud! If not wooden spoon for Wales I'm afraid.

Amazing! I am shocked Jones is so shocked...and to think the French don't ever critise their players? Not the French I know... can't remember them not booing. Jones gets paid to play rugby, it is his job. He knows what to do to silence the critics; play well and what is more actually lead his team on the pitch. The more he and Jenkins complain about the criticism the more they will get. Do they really expect the Welsh media to say "never mind lads, better luck next time"? Time to wake up, there is no place for naivity in this professional era.

Stephen Jones is absolutely useless. He crabs across the pitch with the ball and misses 1 on 1 tackles. He can't stand up to the big occasion and looks like a clueless sheep. Hook has more pace, a longer kick, and makes more tackles. Stephen Jones desveres his criticsm and does not belong in this Welsh team.

It's easy to blame the players. Take a step back and you can see it's the management and the coach at fault: There's avillage somewhere near Llanelli that's missing it's idiot. Get rid of him.

Hook is not ready to take over from Stephen Jones. He's lightweight in the tackle and hasn't yet adjusted to the pace of the international game. He's nearly been caught out a few times this season taking too long to clear the ball.

He's definitely one for the future though.

I am amazed that Stephen Jones is surprised by the critisism. Just over a year ago Wales were all conquering. We'd won a grand slam playing fanstastic attacking rugby, had beaten the aussies as well. Now little over a year later were looking at possibility of a wooden spoon in the 6 nations, and if we don't buck up our ideas, a group stage knockout of the world cup.

Is no wonder the welsh public and press are criticising. We should be among the favourites for the world cup by now, not rank outsiders.

This all stems back to the whole Ruddock affair. The WRU should neer have backed him into a corner making feel like he had to resign. With Ruddock still in charge I have no doubt we'd be among the favourites now. Gareth Jenkins is not the right an for the job.
