Bayer Leverkusen 3 - 2 Blackburn Rovers

Shabani Nonda's late strike put Blackburn in a strong position despite defeat in the first leg of their Uefa Cup tie with Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer took the lead when Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker headed home at the far post before David Bentley levelled when his free-kick took a deflection.

Carsten Ramelow's shot was deflected in and Bernd Schneider superbly flicked in a third ten minutes after the break.

But Nonda volleyed in late on to give Rovers hope for next week's second leg.

i think henchoz is a bigtime liability, hes too slow and the quicker we get rid of him the better but heard he might b gettin a new contract sadface dunn will come good with more matches and bentley is a quality player for us. the basis of the team is good but we just need to sort out a few rough edges

A stuffing's a bit optimistic but i expect a really solid performance at ewood. Sparky will have drilled it into them that they have to perform and that's the only option. And i think if we do perform as well as we can then there will be no problem in getting to the last 16.

Only thing that worries me is there centre-backs. Don't know either of them but they're return will obviously bolster their defence somewhat ok

Agreed. I very rarely slate Blackburn players but Mokoena adds nothing. He's a liability. The only place we were outplayed in last night was centre midfield and guess who was responsible.

Also Jeffers. What is he ever going to offer to a team with amition in the premiership??

I didn't think Mokoena had a bad game particularly. Had a part in the goal, a couple of decent efforts at goal, and broke up play quite successfully. Don't fall into the scapegoat trap.

Emerton, Henchoz and Warnock were all off the pace, Dunn, Nelsen and roberts all look like they have some way to go before they are fit, and Tugay had an awful game (probably due to fatigue from the international)

Bentley, Mokoena and Peter can all walk away with their heads held high. The others need to buck up a little before the return leg, but i can't see it being a problem. Apart from Kiessling looking extremely dangerous, they didn't have anything for us to worry about particularly.

(If Roque Jnr plays anything like he did for Leeds, then we won't even have to turn up)

I could hear the Tin Man's joints. Lets leave Roberts on the Bench for a little while longer, eh Mark?

- juan is brazil's no.2 centre-back and roque junior used to be no.1 before lucio (who was playing for leverkusen at the time) became no.1

Paul Freier was also out I think for the first game. (Right mid/winger who is on fringes of german team).

anyway, good luck to blackburn and leverkusen smiley

Pah, Brazilian defenders are just those players who aren't as good at attacking... 'defending' is an unkown concept to them... winkeye

Freier came on as a sub.

Blackburn have the edge in this tie. They just need to score one and then Bayer will be out. I can't see the Blackburn defence slipping tp to concede 3 goals;but Blackburn mustn't let these 3 goals get into their head.

I really hope we can turn Leverkusen over tonight. I don't see any reason why shouldn't. We know they are dangerous on the attack, but so are we, and we should outclass them defensively judging from the first leg. MGP is back, so it's all good!

C'mon Rovers.
