Dual Standards at the FA/PL?

Premiership Tottenham Hotspur

"Tottenham and Middlesbrough have been fined and warned about their future conduct by the Football Association after a mass brawl in December.
They were charged with failing to control their players after ugly scenes in Spurs' 2-1 win at White Hart Lane.

Spurs were fined £8,000, with £4,000 suspended for 12 months.

Middlesbrough were fined £4,000, with £2,000 suspended, after a game in which Spurs' Didier Zokora and Boro's George Boateng were sent off.

Boateng appealed successfully against the red card for his part in a scuffle with Zokora, which sparked the brawl.

Boateng was sent off along with Zokora following a challenge on Aaron Lennon."

Why the discrepancy in fines? I remember both players commiting red card offences.

How come only one red card gets recinded? There was no innocent party in the affair. Is it just a question of appeal and get let off? This seems to happen far to often.

How can discipine be seen to be enforced when violent behaviour is overlooked with not even a slap on the wrist.

Come on,let's have open and obvius support for referees and their difficult decisions.

We didn't appeal against the Zokora red card which is why it stood, and quite right too, it was an horrendous challenge. To be fair I didn't think Boateng did much for his red card. The ensuing brawl deserved the punishment it received IMO.

Also agree with Arkie. We completely deserve the fine and the Zokora red card was completely deserved (shame it couldn't have been a lifelong ban!) laugh

The fines are a joke.surely in these days the fines should be considerably larger especially as the clubs are being fined not the players.these amounts are pocket money to the players and not likely to have any beneficial affects.

I agree that the fines are too low but I also think that there has been a bad assessment of the situation. Boateng was going for Lennon and Zokora tried to defend him. There was no malice and the good intentions of Zokora should be a mitigating factor. It seems absurd that if Zokora had been further away he would not have got to Boateng in time and then presumably Boateng would have gotten a straight red. This last bit is counterfactual, but the main point stands: It should be taken into account that Zokora was trying to defend a young lad.

The article by the BBC on the brawl and fines looked like it was all Boro's fault, but lets not forget that Tottenham players (some same) have been involved in two more brawls since.
Don't people pay for a licence north of Watford gap or what ??.

8000 and 4000? is that it? was it even worth fining the two clubs?

These fines are a joke. How long can the FA allow the players to act like this. The players them selves should get fines that are big enough to make them stop and think next time.

I agree that Zakora was trying defend Lenon which should have been taken into account though.

Biased assessment imo Boateng never laid a finger on Lennon that’s why he had his card rescinded, on the other hand Chimbonder should have received a red card and Lennon a yellow from that same incident and since when does the FA take into account good intentions. And if I may have a moment of bias Boro imo did not have case to answer and should appeal the decision
