Staunton out now!

International football Ireland
comment on the article

A 2-1 victory against a team of farmers truck drivers policemen and teachers......
The continued inept performances have shown Staunton to be a manager of the lowest level.

The blazers at the FAI are fully to blame as they have failed to invest their (and our taxpayers/ticket buyers) cash. The whole organization needs a re-structuring starting at the action end and going right to the high wage execs that do very little as far as i can see. Its not like they have a national league to run... where any decent player that is able to run and identify what a ball is gets scooted off accros the Irish sea.

Look at our potential when we have a proper organization. the IRFU... thats where we could be!

We need to face the simple facts that the team just isn't good enough. Now ranked lower than Northern Ireland! And after that inept display last night, sure to continue sliding down the order once again. It's an absolute farce.

The FAI need to sack Stan immediately, and then appoint someone who is going to inspire the players to show some love for the green jersey again. What's the problem with bringing in a foreign coach, (that is if any decent coaches would be stupid enough to take the job) instead of sticking by someone who clearly knows absolutely nothing about management.

Seriously, is there another person in this world, who could honestly say that they would have played the same team and had the same tactics as Stan did last night. All he needed to do was look at the San Marino .v. Germany match, way back at the start of the group when somehow Germany managed to score 13!!!

It was no fluke either, all Stan needed to do was play a 3-4-3 formation with attacking midfielders and we would not be in this situation. I didn't think the Irish performances could ever get any worse after Cyprus destroyed us 5-2, but last night showed just how poor this current management team actually are.

Stan has had 8 games in charge, (2 of which were against San Marino) and Ireland have won 3. Apart from his debut match, where Sweden were torn apart, he has selected line-ups which are all defence minded and sure to cause trouble.

I must say however, a massive thanks to Stephen Ireland and Kev Kilbane who have actually kept our slight chance of qualifying for the Euros' still alive.

Time for a reality check Stan, you're not nearly good enough for this level. Please do us all a favour and leave now before you destroy us completely. grr

San Marino worked their socks off, and I felt sorry they were robbed of a little glory. Ireland were poor from the first minute. What worried me was no attempt was made to change tactics. We pressed them into the last third of the pitch, but could not go around the back, or play high balls into the six yard box.
Staunton's post match interview gave us someone who would not admit there is a problem, and John Delaney's comments suggest that (1) Bobby Robson was brought in to manage the team (2) John Delaney has other responsibilities so how could he be responsible.
Delaney has the deflectors up, and Staunton appears devoid of ideas. It's Father Ted and Father Dougal.

I think a sacking would be a bit harsh on Staunton. He can only pick the players he is given..... and apart from a select few Ireland are a very average outfit. sadface

Dribbles: So we are no more successful than Spain? One World Cup victory to their zero? They have never even come close, not even as hosts. France are less successful than us, from a certain point of view: two hostings, one victory. Let football's homeland host it at a time when we have a decent side, and we'll beat that record. Nevertheless, despite the constant sniping from other home nations plus the ROI, I always hope to see all five of us at the tournaments. That it's just been the English at so many recent tournaments gives me no pleasure at all.

I would KILL to have Steve McLaren instead of Stan at the helm. I had a lot of respect for Stan as a player, he took over responsibility when Roy left in Japan and with an average bunch of players did us proud. That said, he is completely incapable of managing and we must cut our losses NOW and get rid of him. I would quite happily take one of the U-21 coaches or even an Eircom League manager, at least they would have expererience coaxing decent performances out of poor players.

San Marino was the worst Irish performance in history. At least Cyprus earned the right to spank us. This team doesn't deserve to play at Croke Park and its so heartbreaking when you see what has gone before that they just don't seem to care.

I was at the game in San Marino, (SM) I have never seen such a shambolic performance by a 'professional' football team ever! They were the pits, headless chickens wandering around the pitch with no gameplan, no discipline, no communication and no ideas from a clueless 'manager'. Never mind a football consultant, what Stan needs is a management/motivation consultant. The goal we conceded was straight out of the keystone cops! The fans tried their best to get behind the team but after the first half you could see things had soured and the supporters were sensing that Cyprus wasn't the appaling one-off it was made out to be. The longer it went on and especially after we failed to capitalise on our goal you could feel the sense of dread starting to build and when they (SM) scored that was it. In my opinion that is the straw that broke the camels back. Even though we did win the game and get the points I believe time will show that this is the moment that Stan and Delaney lost the green army. They're finished both of them! Stan must be replaced and as it was Delaney who appointed him, then he must go too. Enough is enough, being an International manager is no place for on the job learning, this was a big gamble and it has backfired. I also have to keep asking myself why these players are not performing? They didn't do it for Kerr and when Stan came in we heard a lot about how great things would be now that the 'fun' was back, how the pride was back etc. Well I didn't see much pride on wednesday night and it wasn't much fun either watching what can only be described as a rabble of amateurs scratching around clueless in how to score a goal against the worst team in Europe, (and I'm not talking about SM here) San Marino were hard done by here, make no mistake, had that game ended when it should have we would have been finished as a serious football nation (ok semi serious) The Gombeens at Merrion Sq. have caused enough damage here it's time to get some people in who know how to run a 21st century football body. Time to get people in who see that you can't let a 'learner' driver drive the bandwagon you are all depending on. Has anyone though to ask what will happen to the attendances at Croker if we lose to Wales? It will be all over for definite then. Where is the FAI going to get it's money from if the senior international team fails to qualify for major tournaments? How many sponsors are going to want to be associated with a bunch of losers and how many TV stations are going to want to show their viewers the kind of horse manure we were treated to last wednesday? Stan's delighted with the fighting spirit, Capt. Robbie's delighted with the 3 points, Delany's delighted with his 'world class' manager, his big salary and his own self importance and the supporters... ahh stuff them, what do they about football anyway!

Congratulations on a famous victory. Does this mean you will leapfrog over Northern Ireland in the FIFA World Rankings?

They have ... See the FIFA World Rankings.

Goes to show that beating San Marino is seen as better than drawing with Wales.
