sorry to go on about Bale again but reading the Beeb it highlighted something that i was not aware of. did the board actually accept a £10m offer from Spurs for Bale. In which case what does that say about the board and what does it say about Bales thinking. fair play to the lad for staying (if the offer was accepted)

NO WAY!!! There is no way that Garreth Bale should leave for £10 Mil. £6 mil tops.

I am delighted that Gareth Bale is staying at Saints - good for the club, good for him and good for the game.

I'm glad Bale has decided to stay at Saints. He's still a kid and a move to any Premiership club let alone Tottenham would be something too big too soon for him. Spurs have a habit of signing promising teenagers (think jonathon blondel) and he came and went without much notice. Not saying Bale would go the same way but £10M for a 17yr old with no Premiership experience seems too much of a gamble.

The lack of 1st team football?!

How many 17 yr olds play 1st team football? Most are still playing in the youth set up or the reserves. Bale is obviously a quality player - otherwise he wouldn't be in the 1st 11 at such a young age but I don't think playing with lads his age would harm his development as long as he was training with the 1st team.

as a long suffering saints fan I am a sick to death of the constant speculation surrounding Bale. He's a youngster so leave hm alone. Let him develop and a Saints player. Walcott left and I don't think he has progressed as a footballer. He was invisible against Liverpool in the league cup. He would be a much better player if he stayed a saint, but going to a bigger club means your under alot more pressure. Bale take note.

Well done Bale for using common sense to see the one overiding factor in this saga - His personnel development v cash
This surely is a lesson for all young players looking to get on in the game i.e. It's about the love of the game and wanting to test yourself at the highest level against the best and NOT when can I buy my first sportscar ?
Mr Stuart Pearce will be very pleased.....

This is great news for the Saints! Thanks for deciding to stay Gareth.

Even if we have lost a few million from his value, as fans of other teams keep speculating (mainly from those teams who lost out), we can now keep our momentum going. We are hitting our best form of the season now - losing Gareth at this stage would have totally disrupted our structure and effectiveness as a unit.

He was worth way more than £10m to us (even if he wasn't to other teams), so I was surprised the board allowed Spurs to approach him. I was pleased to see that they insisted that they wanted him to stay (and George would have definitely wanted him to stay)- but really its Gareth himself that we have to thank.

Well worth £10m to us. I was shocked by the board's decision to sell - I believe that Burley would have followed eventually had he lost such a key player at such a crucial time in our campaign. Skacel, Jones, and who knows who else may have followed their manager. History shows that the successful Saints players (Shearer, Flowers, Crouch) are those who keep their head for a while and develop their trade in the first team, while those who jump ship at the first offer from the wrong team (Davis, Beatty) can often disappear from our radars, and not get close to the promise they originally showed. No one can be expected to do a LeTissier, but another season would not harm Bale's career one bit, and who knows, he may get Premiership experience next season with the Saints as his reward?

I think it's fantastic that he has decided to stay. Look at Theo Walcott. He looks completely lost for Arsenal, my gunner girlfriend's words not mine, and it would be a shame for Bale to turn out the same way. He is a fantastic player and he, and Walcott, will be wonderful players in a few years. I am a United fan and would love Bale to come to us but just not yet. He has some great advisors and I just hope he doesn't get too tempted by the megabucks deals that will be wafted under his nose in the summer.
