Anichebe changed the game. Get well AJ...

Firstly, well done to the defence (esp. Yobo) and I hope to God AJ doesn't have a broken ankle. It could just be a painful sprain.

However much we'll miss Aj's enthusiasm, pace and knack for a goal it didn';t suprise me one bit when we played better after he went off.

AJ cannot constantly play 4-5-1; his undoubted strengths are wasted this way. A lone striker should be able to hold the ball up, in most cases requiring Mark Hughes-like upper body strength.

Enter Anichebe; he changed the game by giving Usnworth & co. their first real contest of the day.

He linked with the midfield superbly and brought the nearly unoticed Arteta, Osman and Cahill in the game. His decision-making needs work but he did excellently to relieve the prssure on his team with some top hold-up play.

I urge Moyes to stop playing AJ alone when he returns and give him a partner. Anichebe or Beattie provide the defenders which another headache and give AJ that space to get runs in use his pace. If he's consatntly chasing lost causes he will knacker himself and get clattered more.

Again though, lets end on a positive. 3rd away win & clean sheet.

Well done for showing the heart that I believe was doubted after the Reading & Blackburn games.

Yes it was 3 points we badly needed and that isn't to be sniffed at. But if we are to compete with Liverpool in a couple of weeks then things have to change.

Ok so BT isn't in form, but if DM never plays him for more than 20 minutes then how is he ever going to get his goal scoring ways back? I'm one of those eternal optimists that hopes one day BT will come good and I'm not convinced that Big Vic is as good as the hype having seen him play a few times. I agree he can hold the ball up ok, but never seems to do anything with it once he has and although hopefully that will come with time, I would rather see BT partner AJ up front anyday at the moment (if he is in a running mood that is!)

I don't rate McFadden at all and think he would do much better in the Championship. If Moyes isn't going to buy, he needs to make the most out of the players he has and give them enough chance to prove themselves. Big Vic scores 2 and then is 'rested'? What's that about. I'm not a Moyes hater at all, I just want to see him playing our best players in ways that gets the best out of them.

Probs going to get slated for saying this but AJ's injury gives Beattie a big chance to prove his worth. He needs a good run in the first team, everytime he comes on his commitment is top class just needs a bit of luck to boost his confidence. Ok we lack pace in Beattie and and Big Vic but can LFC handle their power? come on the lads Europe is calling!

Susie H above, Said Anichebe does not do anything when he does get the ball ... well he won a penalty today, won a penalty against chelsea, chased the ball to win the throw in that set up the 2nd today... he links up with the midfield players very well as we have seen. He is also a huge ariel threat and completely changed the outcome for todays match. And has bagged a few goals for the short time he has played. that to me seems that big vic has a huge impact on the way everton play.

Well this is the chance Beattie could snatch.

Up to you Mr Moyes if you wanna back your purchase. You bought him fro alot of cash afterall...

BT- last chance saloon for you.

I agree with harroaj8 though, I can't fault the shape he's in finally. How can you build confidence when you don't geta run?

Good article, i think it was a great result hats off to young vic and mikel. chin up AJ you'll be back before you know it.
Moyes needs to play 4-4-2 all the time.

In response to Balmo123, yes I agree of course that Big Vic won us the penalty, but my comment was about his general game and he doesn't at this point (bearing in mind he is only 18 after all) seem capable of actually distributing the ball once he has held it up. He isn't going to get a penalty every time he touches the ball and so this is clearly something that needs to be worked on.

I am not denying that he is a presence up front, but as far as skill and shooting ability, I am yet to be convinced - although I hope I will be!
My point is that surely BT should be picked over VA as a partner for AJ regularly. Moyes obviously disagrees though.

Susie H, in the 4-5-1 formation he does not get too much support and until the midfield arrives to support him he cannnot do much but hold it up. And i would say he probably does more than AJ. DM needs to play 4-4-2 to accomadate Johnson because he does not have the makings of a lone striker. He needs a partener upfront. Esp against a team like liverpool .
