Following on from my article ( Scotish Cricket hits an all time low ) yesterday Scotish Cricket has hit an all time high today beating that world power in the game, Canada, by 3 wickets. No one can accuse me of not giving praise when praise is due so well done lads.Maybe you're ready to give England a match now.

Better than England

I can't really understand some of the snide remarks aimed at the Scotland team. These are mainly amateur players who are doing their country proud and stating a claim as the best one day side out with the recognised international setup. If Scotland can beat the Dutch and avoid getting humiliated against the Aussies and South Africa at the World Cup then that will be a great achievement.

As a 21year old Scot who has supported the English cricket team over the past 10 years (through worse runs than their current form!), I feel that the abuse aimed at the current team is unfair. The Aussies are by far the best team in the World. England are also missing key players and many are struggling with their form. It is only a few months ago after all that this team won back the ashes and many people were quite happy to jump on the English bandwagon back then- I suppose many of these part-time supporters are just as keen to jump back off it when a few results go against them.

I wouldn’t be surprised if England shocked everyone and done well in this years World cup (if they can avoid the Aussies!). I will be shouting for all three of our home nations.

TartanBarmyArmy, let me assure you that Ireland is not one of the "home nations".
Apart from that, I think winning just one game for Ireland and Scotland will be viewed as a success, especially for Ireland.

If Ireland are not one of the "home Nations" then why do we play some of our games in Belfast or Downpatrick?

"The home nations is a term used to refer to the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom — England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — collectively but as separate entities, distinct from the United Kingdom as a state".
The Irish cricket team incorporates both the Republic and Northern Ireland. The term can, and is still used, however I just dont like it.

In answer to your question, the cricketing facilities in Northern Ireland are superior to those in the Republic. Therefore most games are played there. In contrast, most rugby (another all-Ireland sport) matches are played in the Republic as the facilities are superior to those in Northern Ireland.

Just thought i'd take this opportunity on a Friday while the boss is not in to say how impressed i've been with some of the matches being played in the World Cricket League
in Kenya. I have been keeping an eye on it and there have been some tremendous games especially with the Scottish team with their close wins over Canada, Ireland and today Holland all of them being won in the last over or the last ball in the case of the Ireland game. And with Kenya winning that dramatic game v Ireland today it's been complulsive internet viewing!!!

i think that some of the so called established cricketing nations would do well not to be taking some of these associate teams lightly! and by the looks of it the entertainment value has been ten times better than that CB series currently going on down under! i hope there will be more media attention brought to it as that's what countries like Sco, Ire and Holland need if cricket is to get a boost especially as these 3 countries are more football oreintated. Roll on the World Cup and good luck to all the associate nations (esp.Scotland!!)

Yes, there have been some tight games going on...I get highlight packages of the games on cable TV. Maybe tonight's package might include today's matches.

The last I saw was the Kenya-Holland encounter.
