Dong signs new Man Utd contract

Dong signs a deal to keep him at Old Trafford until 2010
Manchester United's China international striker Dong Fangzhou has signed a new contract with the Premiership leaders.
Dong was granted a work permit in December, and his new deal will keep him at Old Trafford until 2010.

The 21-year-old signed from Dalien Shide in January 2004 for £3.5m and was loaned to Belgian club Royal Antwerp.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club's website: "We're all excited he has eventually arrived and can start playing."

During his time in Belgium Dong scored 36 goals in 61 for Antwerp.

Ferguson added: "He sacrificed two-and-a-half years at Antwerp, which showed great patience and determination.

"He's quick, athletic and he can only improve by training with the first team squad here."

Dong's only previous first-team appearances came in non-competitive matches on Man Utd's pre-season tour of South Africa, where he scored the winner in a match against Kaiser Chiefs.

How do Man United fans think Dong Fangzhou will progress at United?

it's good news for the team. As sir Alex said, training can help him aquire the style of the premiership.he will be to my liking if he plays as fast as park.but he should not rush to feature now.

As a Manu fans from "Asia", i think he can make us suprise...not mention abt the marketing ploy...They can buy someone that famous in china...but why Dong...i keep thinkin that SAF has sth to show us. he want to show us that this dude has got talent. anyway, EPL is the hardest League in the world to day...he will benefit from playin in this league and you will see that Dong will show that why SAF choose him.

Well, in reply to piro fusion... How many other asian players have come to united apart from jsp, and, comparing him to sheva? Whats your point, shev is 32, dong is 21, and they are completely different players. Dongs record for antwerp? 36 in 61? Incredible for a 18-21 year old who cannot speak the language, let alone play in that sort of league before. Plus, how many other players can put the ball on their heads and run past players? That will be entertaining.

Sir Alex brought up the *golden generation* included Beckham, Giggs, Scholes etc..
Why will he be giving a deal to Dong that worth 3 years? is he really that stupid to offer a 3 years contact to a player with no future in the Premiership??

Well so far, the boy played one game for us and scored one game winning goal. May have been a friendly but there were plenty of other good players who could have scored. Dong put it in the net though and it was a good finish. Don't judge Fergie by Djemba and Kleberson, judge him by Scholsey and Beckham and Giggsy and Roon and Ronaldo and Cantona and Keane and Rock of Gibraltar ;o)
Hopefully he'll get a run out on Sunday against Arsenal when we're 3-0 up.

Links do not work on 606 but cut and paste them into your browser and they should come up(worked for me). Basically, those youtube vids are all of Dong's goals for Antwerp. Looks a good player.

when will people accept that Fergie's golden generation was a fluke?
that was over 10 years ago and since then he has not brought through on top quality player from the united youth team.

Still I am sure he will have fun playing with his Dong.

8 Premierships and the Champions league is no fluke though. (Make that 9 & 2 by the end of this season)
