CashleyBeckham - It IS for the money!

Why is it that when you make a perfectly valid and justifiable commercial decision to enrich yourself, one has to try to disclaim publicly any profit motive for the decision.

Cashley Cole is a prime example when he moved to Chelsea for an extra 5k a week dispute. He was very quick to tell the media that ‘It is not for the money”

We now have Beckham bleating the same. Of course it is for the money. Why don’t they just come out and say it instead of being so defensive about it.

In reality, we all try to get a better salary or income but I am sure none of us tell our new employer – I did not come here for the money.

Money paid to sports stars over here?? Robbo...he will be getting paid WAY more then any "sports stars" in the states...any sport, any of them. The teams not paying him though...its the advertisors that put up the package...you know addidas, pepsi and the like. Soccer could never afford him here.

Beckham stopped being a footballer after 2002 world cup really and made the transition to a brand name quite well. He is good at what hedoes but its not football. His move to America, which regardless of how much their are paying him remains a marginal nation in football terms is good-his circus belongs there and those of us that love football can sit back and watch real honest talent being displayed. He would have been better off staying at Man U. His coming to america is a comedy really. Best of luck to him -he cant damage football anymore cos we dont take notice of football there-you go there for one last fling before retirement. Have a happy retirement Becks.cool

oi I hate cashley bad cos I am a gooner but you arer confusing talent (Cashley) with celebrity beckham-this is substance (cashley -think I am gonna throw supporting this guy) and the absence of it. Remember when he played in the last world cup-his team mates carried him and gallantly refused to condemn him as a liability afterwards even though it was evident he was-then he goes and hogs the limelight again by announcing his resignation as captain-fellow was gonna get fired by stevie boy anyways -then even in retirement he again announces that he is going to America-bye! Capello is Class and if he thinks kecks or whathisname can go then thats saying something. In the last world cup we could have gone far but lennon (god I am gonna throw up) had to make way for liability dave-as soon as lennon came on we showed the edge we should have had if hje had started-we gace hime everything and he has given football nothing in return but the rise of celbrity over substance-dont reign it in becksyboy -you belong in Hollywood-you been acting all along.cool

Beckham clearly has gone for the money, although that may not be the only reason. The world cup (and the 2 years before that) proved that he is now a liability at international level. He is no longer good enough for a first team place at Madrid, and none of the big English teams would want him.

Given the choice of a massive salary and celebrity lifestyle in LA, or a few years of either mid table obscurity at Spurs, or relegation battles at West Ham, it is very clear that he has made the right decision.

His wages according to the press here, will be the biggest to any pro athlete. But I think it's the way it has been packaged.

You guys are going to die laughing after you hear this...On TV a show called the Veiw just stated the Katie Holms was trying to get Posh a spot in a movie. Posh would play a "demon" type scientologist person. I'm not kidding, this is what they said! It's the show Barbara Walters owns and is on, what a laugh.
They also brought up soccer in america. The one anouncer said they went to see "bend it like beckham" because she thought it was a porn flick, lol.

The apparent hatred now of becks has been stoked up enormously by the media. yes hes going to america to play for some obscure team for a ridiculously collosul amount of money ........

........... so what?

give the guy a break if any of you on here sniping about him were to be offered £128 mill to do your job would you not snap it up straight away? i know i would!!!

and comparing cole to becks is ridiculous because they are both completely different players in different positions that bring different attributes to the game and are at different stages of their careers.
