Like I've said the whole thing stinks of the top brass at the SFA wanting money for their own pockets... why they would not entertain Smiths offer to cover both jobs is otherwise beyond me. International management is not nescessarily a full time job. Numerous managers have done both and with larger national teams than Scotland.

Also imagine what it would have looked like if the SFA just let Smith go. The fans would have went crazy. Not looking as if they can be bothered keeping a man that's done so well for them. Thing is it's just a big farce. The SFA want to look innocent but the fact is they should have tied smith down as soon as they saw him as an asset. The SFA are at fault not Walter or Rangers.

The fact is that Smith was on a contract. If he does not want to fulfill it then the SFA have every right to claim whatever moneys they are due based on that contract.

gers fan i think its sad how some people are saying that walter is turning his back on his conrty.smith joind scotland and he had a up hill climb and he has brought scotland through a ruff time to the top of the group.so for the next scotland manager will be in a good posission compaird to what walter had to pick up after bertie vogs left the country in.so i think scotland still has a good chance to qualifiy and they will

The old firm have become a curse on Scottish Football.

They sign up all the decent young Scottish talent, and nine times out of ten it ends up on the bench. What a waste.

Their PR team seems to get them away with just about anything in the medias eyes, for example Gary Caldwell's shocking challenge on Fernandez being described as clumsy!

They go to 'represent' Scotland abroad in a sea of Union Jacks and Tri-colours.

They continue to sing sectarian filth, and pretend its ok because everyone does it?? I have been going to Games in Scotland for 20 years and have never heard a set of supporters other than the old firm singing this small-minded trash.

And now they embarass Scottish football again by poaching the national coach.

Smith claimed that things would have ben different if he had been offered an extension to his contract with Scotland ie beyond November 2007. However, my view is that he would have broken a contract of any duration to return to his first love. He even referred to Rangers as 'us', when he was commenting on the Falkirk v Rangers match on Setanta in December. Perhaps the deal had already been done!!
