I've been reliably informed that a substantial bid was made for Nugent, which the PNE board were happy to take, however Paul Simpson said "he's not for sale." The understanding I get is that Nugent is a Preston player until the summer, when he is likely to move on should Preston fail to win promotion.

Regarding Stead.... words can't express how strange this signing is. I know he did well in that half season when he first joined Blackburn, but he never kicked on. I can't think what he's been signed for; I doubt he'll score the goals Utd need to stay up (mind you, I thought that about Hulse, and I'd be happy to be proved wrong this time too)

Stead's a joke if you look at my history there's a thread about Warnock where I stated that he'd buy a donkey striker and he has lol

I remember Andy Gray coming to us with a poor scoring record and not even being played as a striker. Also, Marcus Bent came to us having scored 3 in 30 for Port Vale. Deano wasn't a regular scorer for Doncaster and Agana never got a game for Watford - need I go on? Give the lad a chance.

Indeed but thats natural attrition and true of all clubs and players. Good strikers are a rare commodity (hen's teeth) and about 1:100,000 actually make it.

Lewis Nyatanga? Good kid, lots of potential but not all that at the moment. Struggling at left back - perhaps safc should have tried him in the middle. Finds it difficult to pass the ball down the left. I think the jury's out on him at the minute.

he should be the Francis Jeffers of the championship yet seems to experience no glass ceiling to his clear lack of talent

being a town fan i have followed staedinho's career very closely and obviously have some insight into warnock as well i think neil has done his homework on this one. look at the managers steady has performed for. Peter Jackson a larger than life character with plenty to say for himself and has an ability to instill confidence (until recnetly lol)
and neil knows peter very well having managed him for a couple of years.
Souness similar type of aggressive character with the ability to influence the confidence of those around him, Warnock has the right kind of personality for jon stead he is the only manager in the prem capable of turning jon stead into a premiership goalscorer. his goalscoring record for sunderland was poor but it was in a very poor team at the time (dan smith played premiership games even though he looked out of depth at times when on loan to us)
this is steads last chance to prove himself at this level but if he can do it for anyone it will be neil warnock

John stead is a good honest hard-working lad,but don't think he'll score lots of goals,my thanks to him though for his time at my club derby county as he worked his socks off and the goals he scored were important ones.
