Dowie angered by reports

Iain Dowie insists he is not bitter about his sacking by Charlton but says he is upset by reports about his six-month reign at The Valley.

He was dismissed as manager in November after only 12 league games.

Dowie told BBC Five Live Sport: "It's history. It's a good club and the fans were very good to me. I've moved on.

"What's disappointing is what has been said and what's been spun out of it - the lies that have been reportedly told about my tenure there."

Much as I hate him for the way he left Palace, I think he should've had more time. Charlton should have let him have at least the January window and then seen what happened.
However, for my money Dowie just isn't a great manager. He's fantastic technically, but he'd be much better suited to the role of a coach or assistant manager. Why Charlton then went and hired another bloke identical to Dowie is beyond me.

I like Dowie as a person and human being. Have met him and his humor and energy is captivating. I think he's a good coach in the European sense. However some of his transfer choices are wild Jon Macken? And at Charlton the list is endless - Djimi Traore, Amdy Faye, Diawara(best of a bad bunch), JFH, and Pouso. Faye is worst player I have ever seen. Only Reid has worked. OK Curb's was bad recently as well but we have got varying service out of Romm + Murphy and D.Bent....
However I agree with him about how the board have behaved. Dowie did not negotiate fees the board did. Faye, Traore and Marcus Bent are free transfer players. I don't care if the manager says he wants them it's up to the board to pay a market value. How did Bent leap from 500,000 to 2.5 mill, after 7 prem goals in 60 games? We bought him when he was in an alarming slump at Everton - the fee is the boards fault and they should accept their mistakes but they haven't.

Any Palace fan could have predicted the job Dowie would do at Charlton. He is a good motivator of players and a decent coach os skills and technique.
However he has as much nous in the transfer market as the forementioned laundry lady. Diawara, a faded Hasselbaink, Faye are of the calibre of Sandor Torgelle, Fitz Hall and Jon Macken. He has only made two quality signings that I can think of - Emmerson Boyce and Andy Ried (and his brother signed Boyce he didnt.) He should have taken the Hull job as it was a similar situation to the one he inherited at Palace.
Charlton have a decent manager now who if given time will get them back into the Championship. (however yesterdays performance suggests it may get worse before it gets better!)

I can't believe how poor the Charlton players look. I watched the game v Fulham and Jerome Thomas - a player I saw rip Spurs apart a few years ago (6 November, 2004) - played like a scared lamb. Really hope Pardew turns it around for them but he may need to rebuild in the Championship and ship out the players who have lost their mojo.

I agree with watkins. Dowie did brilliantly at Palace when he didn't have to sign too many players. A bit similar to Taylor's management career - though he is much sharper than Taylor as a coach.
We now have a good coach/manager. Not only that but unlike Curbs' he picks excellent assistants - Parkinson, Grant and Peacock; how was Dunce Day ever above Peacock in the pecking order?
The good thing with Pardew is he's already getting ready to drop the dross - Faye. Both Dowie and Les Reed couldn't see that it is worth having a sixteen year old with passion compared to Faye. Hopefully Pards will realise that Kish has to be played in central middfield and he is not a full back now.

Good luck to the bloke in the future is all I really have to say, he was dedicated to the course but let's be honest the signings weren't good (apart from Andy Reid and Scott Carson) but as well as Darren Bent we can't keep relying on them two.

Les Reed was even worse and now Pardew is left with a weak squad, possibility of relegation and losing our star man Darren Bent.

If we don't get relegated I reckon Pards Will be a Charlton legend, if we unfortunately do three words: Blame the board

I, and many (if not most) of the fans never had a problem with Ian Dowie once he was appointed.
We stuck with him, and would have through thick and thin. His heart was obviously in the right place. I am sure all true Charlton fans wish him well, after our board treated him so badly and put us in jeopardy.
Pardy, by the way, may sort that.

Dowie says he's moved on yet his words indicate the opposite.

He seems to lack mature judgment, which limits his leadership ability, which hurts his managerial skills. He got paid out for deceiving Palace, after they generously let him out of his contract and waived the million pound penalty clause. To get loyalty you have to give it.
