A game that Tamworth started brightly ended in defeat to Norwich, thanks to good finishing and defensive blunders.

The Conference side had an energetic start, and John McGrath had a stunning volley beaten away by Norwich goalkeeper Paul Gallacher.

Tamworth continued to press, and Simon Heslop also fired wide, before striker Steve Burton crept in front of Gary Doherty, but he fired his shot just wide of Gallacher's far post.

There were two yellow cards in quick succession for the home side. First of all, Simon Weaver saw yellow for bringing down Robert Earnshaw. Secondly, it was John McGrath who was booked, for a horrible, high challenge on Youssef Safri.

Tamworth were beginning to lose their way, and Lee Croft had a good shot saved by Jose Veiga, before Dion Dublin flicked Darren Huckerby's puzzling cross into the net, with his head.

The strike came as a blow, as it was just before half-time, but it got even worse, when Dublin's flick-on, with his head, gave Huckerby the chance to creep in and knock the ball past Veiga.

It only took the away side six minutes of the second-half to get their third goal, when Huckerby somehow got the ball in the box. He hit a weak shot, that looked an easy one for Veiga, but the ex-Benfica goalkeeper dived over the ball, and let it roll underneath his body.

It was only eleven minutes before the fourth, when a horrific error by defender Tom Kemp let in Dublin, who slid in to lob Veiga.

However, the Tamworth fans had something to cheer about, when Kyle Storer hit a wonderful shot from just outside the area, that beat Paul Gallacher. It was one that the part-timer could tell his grandchildren about, as it was a very good goal.

Tamworth began to get their energy back, and they started to push forward again. On-loan Birmingham City substitute Jamie Price fired a good effort wide.

However, Norwich held onto their three-goal-lead, but Tamworth boss Mark Cooper could tak a lot of positives from their performance.

Team list
T: Veiga, Smith, Weaver, Kemp, Heslop (Law 89), Taylor, McGrath, Storer, Laight, Williams (Price 63), Burton (Atieno 56). Unused Subs: Belford, Cooper. Booked: Weaver, McGrath.

N: Gallacher, Colin, Doherty, Shackell, Drury, Croft (Robinson 64), Safri (Hughes 69), Etuhu, Huckerby, Earnshaw, Dublin (Thorne 66). Unused Subs: Lewis, McVeigh.

Forget the result for a moment. I watched the game on the BBC and I have to say a big well done to all the travelling Norwich fans who made the game. All I could hear on the tv was the chanting from the Canary supporters and it sounded more like a home game than the supposed hostile crowd we were expecting. Good on you all, because it must hae made a difference for the players!

whilst i agree with the Norwich fans playing their part, good hearted applause for us as well as their own team i must say that, having been there and re watched the game on the telly i think you must have been watching a different game on TV. yes there was one spell of Norwich singing in the second half but apart from that it was mostly Tamworth voices that could be heard. albeit quietly. perhaps it was someything to do with the micropphone placements. but does this chap recall the fine support the Shed gave Dublin as he came off?.. prob not.... but anyway, good luck to Norwich in further rounds, and i'm proud of how Tamworth played and in honesty the scoreline was a bit flattering. Just goes to show what good finishers can do.

You must be joking mate. I was in the shed choir, and all I could hear on the BBC coverage was the home fans. Dont you know the difference?? We are Tamworth, Super Tamworth, we are Tamworth from the Lamb. The Norwich fans were really quiet, until they scored. Sing when you're winning!!
Really mate, you are wrong on this one

What a great match, we really should have scored early on, but that seems to be our problem. We had Norwich worried, and as I was standing beside the away dugout I could see how edgy the Norwich boss was getting.
We did ourselves proud, and the first 40 minutes were a brilliant advert for the FA cup. Of course in the end quality will tell, Norwich managed to get hold of the ball, and Dion Dublin is an excellent pro. Well done to Norwich, and all the best to them.
PS Could someone from Norwich who was actually at the match tell the eejit that thinks all the noise came from them what it was really like!!!!

Tamworth fans embarassed themselves with their chants to Dublin, talk about being gracious in defeat. His reaction was amusing.

What did I hear on the TV? I heard some idiot banging a drum, over which the singing couldn't be heard. I heard a couple of quite quiet Come on Tamworths etc but they seemed to be relying on the drum for most of the noise.

I'm not saying that the diehard Tamworth fans didn't sing their hearts out, as I have no doubt they did. They may be falling into the trap of getting a false sense of the true volume because they're inside the group singing.

Of course, like for Woking Aldershot, the home crowd mics may have been turned off.
