Bristol Rovers 1-0 Hereford

FA Cup Bristol Rovers
comment on the article

Richard Walker's first-half penalty settled a tense FA Cup third round tie against Hereford.

Hereford keeper Wayne Brown mistimed his challenge on Craig Disley to concede the penalty in the 22nd minute, and Walker made no mistake.

Brown atoned for his earlier mistake with a string of fine saves to deny Rickie Lambert and Walker.

Rob Purdie spurned Hereford's best chance of the game in stoppage time when he fired wide from 15 yards.

This was yet another really evenly contested game in front of a crowd of nearly 9,000.

Rovers shaded the first half, and won a penalty when keeper Brown fouled Disley. Walker converted the penalty, and has now scored in all three rounds.

Sills worked particularly hard for Hereford, while Lescott and Carruthers both had a good game down the flanks.

Hereford threw on their attacking players towards the end of the second half and almost equalised in the final few minutes, but Purdie wasted a good chance.

So a good game, and the first time Rovers have made the 4th Round for five years. Times are good again at the Mem. cool

Oh how I love the anticipation and false hope prior to the FA Cup draw.

Barnet away awaits I think. I'm still chuffed the Gas won and won well. Better crowd and £40,000 in the bank. Something to smile about for a change.

Up the Gas.
