Nugent - No Sale at £6 million

Championship Preston North End

comment on the article

Reported in both the local paper and according to BBC the Daily Mail we have rejected an offer from Sheffield United of £6 million for David Nugent.

I for one thought an offer of that value would trigger a sale, Alex Bruce a North End legend said as much last week. I hope that this is a sign of intent and perhaps should get the Shaw haters off his back.

Nuge seems to be hitting form, 4 in 4, and with Nowland getting a run out and hopefully Mellor not too far from fitness, Miller I hope also signs we have a squad that can truely challenge.

I know some will say £6 million for a player in the CCC, but someone obviously thonks he's worth it!!

I don't think Nugent will be sold in the window, because no-one will offer enough. The bid - six million if we believe what we are told, will most likely result in less than £2million in terms of up front payment, a chunk of money to Bury, a payment if Sheff. Utd stay up, money based on appearances, international caps etc. Even if they'd offered a flat £6million, that would only be £4.5m to North End and £1.25million to Bury. Not good value IMO.

theres no use selling him now. if we're still in the CCC in summer, then we may have to sell, but as things stand, we have a good chance of going up. he will prob want to stay. a star in the team and fully guaranteed a starting place and therefore improvement.
i think he'll stay and fire us to the premiership

btw, the guy is a fortune teller.
he sed before the col utd game he wud score 20 goals in the season (he was then on 5), and since hes scored 4. on target (ish).
lol

i think it is simpley put too much of a risk to sell him.

He is the sort of player who can get you into the top flight and at this stage of the season why sell him and risk not been able to bring someone in who can replace him?

If preston dont go up then in the summer you would not have thought they would still be able to get 6 million for him, however like has already been said i cant see your board pumping the 6 million back into replacement player(s), maybe just over half of that but not the full 6 million

in my eyes it would be far better to keep hold of him and if you dont go up and he does go for less then you have to say that it was a risk worth taking

The board's decided Nuge isn't for sale. Good.

There is precedent for this at Deepdale. Tom Finney was always lauded for being Preston through and through, and never playing for anyone else. Truth is, he was offered the chance to play in Italy, earning a fortune, but the board refused to let him go, saying: "If you don't play for us, you don't play for anybody."

As a blades fan i think nugent would would be an ideal player to go alongside rob hulse and we do have around £7 mil to spend, difference between him and ashton/johnson were that they have played in the prem, he hasnt although i would love to see him in bl;ades shirt.

credit to your board though as in the past you have been a selling club (cresswell, healy, lucketti, davis, lewis etc.)

i thought finney just wanted to stay in Preston as he was a home boy? I doubt he would have wanted to go to Italy back in the early 60s. It would have been like another world (there were no internet in them days bud's)

message to bainbo:
i wasnt actually born when finney was around, but i heard that PNE's board accepted the bid and it was finney himself who decided to go.

we have become a bit of a selling club, but we MUST stop otherwise we will go nowhere.
the white ARE going up

bainbo/kelvin.wilson.is.my.idol - Tom Finney talks about this propsed transfer in his autobiography. It was the Italian club Palermo who wanted to buy him and Sir Tom pretty much admits that he was so tempted that he would probably have gone, but the PNE Board said no way and that was the end of the matter. Not really such a thing as player power in those days eh?
