Barney stuns Taylor in final

comment on the article
Raymond van Barneveld

Raymond van Barneveld claimed his first PDC World Championship title after defeating 13-time world champion Phil Taylor 7-6 in a thrilling final.

We'd like your views on the final, which Taylor said was probably the finest match he's played in in 18 years of World Championship action.

"I watched the REAL Championship but I won't be bothering with the BDO 'Second Division' version"
If yr a darts fan surely you'll watch both?
Typical of ignoramuses in this country to start slagging off another body of the sport they claim to love. It's like Prem League fans slagging off The Football League - why??
Darts is darts, if you like it, you'll watch it

cybermartinholland, for your information Barneveld averaged only 89 in that final, in probably the worst performance of his career.

His level has gone up two gears since he joined the PDC!

Yes offcourse 'suddenly' his level went up because he went to PDC...
No seriously, he doesn't always throw that well like he did against Taylor.
(actually he should have lost against Lloyd to be honest)
Remember his average then?
Lloyd hit the wire at matchdart..
He is not that consistent like Taylor.

But glad he won, anyway great final hope to see more of that.

Barney has defintely improved since he joined the PDC, there isn't much debate about that really.

I watch most of the Sky tournaments, and although he cocked up in qualifying for one (UK open? can't remember!), he has certainly been a dominant force alongside Taylor, which he certainly wouldn't have been if he had been throwing his BDO darts.

Barney got destroyed in that unification match with taylor a few years back, it was embarrassing!

Barney likes the fact that now he is number 2 behind Taylor and has less pressure on his back then when he was the number one in the Lakeside last year.
Spectators also many British favouring him because they also like to see Taylor losing for a change I think.
Still he was very lucky against Lloyd not to lose bad ,and his average did not improve anythink there.
Barney won Lakeside 3 or 4 times and has thrown the averages he does now in the PDC this year many many times before in several years in the BDO.
If you would have watched Barney in previous years (like I did)in the BDO and in many tournaments in Holland I can assure you he has not changed a bit.
He is just being noticed more since joining the PDC.
Only against Taylor his 21 x180 is special due to the fact that because of Taylor his level must grow.
That is true.

In that unification match in Holland however Taylor was applaudid and cheered by 80% of the Dutch fans instead of Barney and Barney could not cope with that in his homecountry.
And totally collapsed.
Still even being a Dutch Barney fan I still believe Taylor is better than Barney and always consistently throwing very good.
If they play 10 matches it will be 7-3 to Taylor I think, maybe 6-4.

Taylor is the best darts player in the world ever. Barney's performance from 3-0 down was outstanding and it's nice to see Taylor have some serious competition in the PDC. I doubt anyone can argue about that. What can be agrued is the level of the BDO. When I watch the likes of Adams, Hankey and King, I can't help but feel that they would be nowhere in the PDC and they like being big fish in a small pond.

As for the debate about van Gerwing and Klassen, both out in the first round, and one was reigning champion. Both are talented, but are only BDO standard.

I dont agree the PDC is generally that much stronger than the bdo. I would agree that taylor and barnevevld are at a diffeent level as they have performed consitently for year. However I think the next tier down are no better than the top bdo players possibly worse. Hamilton and Jenkins effectively finished joint 3rd in the pdc, nobdoy will persuade me that these would run riot in the bdo. I think PDC is more flashy and better marketed but a lot of their stars were not that succesful in the bdo.

Adams, Hankey,King Klaasen, van Gerwen are all potential top 10 ranking PDC players!
Do you really believe Mason,Scholten or Mardle are one inch better?
Because they were not when they played in the BDO Lakeside..

The PDC produces better quality for me, it's actually becoming a little painful to watch some of these BDO matches this week.

Hamilton, Lewis, and probably Lloyd would be capable of winning the BDO title at the moment to name a few. Hamilton looks a very fine prospect, he didn't perform against Taylor because it was Taylor, but before that he had been playing some punishing darts.

Lewis reeks of pure natural ability, and Lloydy is better than he is given credit for, mainly because of his crazy and meaningless no. 1 ranking!

Ted Hankey? give me a break, what has the man done since winning the title?

the only players I could see being PDC top ten material in the BDO are Adams, Whitlock and Van Gerwen (providing he is actually better than he showed against Robson)
