Yakubu's second-half double was enough to hand Middlesbrough all three points at the expense of Sheffield United.

Boro took the lead thanks to Mark Viduka who turned the Blades defence on the edge of the area to rifle in low.

Their lead was short-lived when Phil Jagielka fired in a penalty after Emanuel Pogatetz fouled Rob Hulse.

But second-half pressure from Boro paid off when Yakubu poked in from a yard and then added his second from the spot after he was fouled by Chris Morgan.

Yeah, I expected us to win this match. Boro definitely have the quality to beat the teams near them in the league at home (and we slay the giants regularly), but we'll be on the edge of our seat right until the end of the season if we don't start winning away.

Disappointing for the Blades. I felt this was a game we could have won. The games coming up next are winnable so we have to look to them and hopefully warnock will have dipped into his 'warchest' as the bbc puts it. Personally I think we need to tighthen up at the back still and need another midfielder. Happy new year blades

Those of a nervous disposition should probably look away now... I've just got back from the Boro game, and I think that that was quite easily the worst Blades performance this season. We were absolutely abysmal - but there were a few bright points, mainly us FINALLY scoring a penalty and the continued away support.

Other than that, we were awful and I think we thoroughly deserved the tonking that we got. Boro outclassed us all over the pitch. Some would say that we didn't have the run of the ball, and they'd be right about that, but that doesn't excuse what was a dreadful performance.

Our midfield today was diabolical. Stephen Quinn, try as he might, couldn't do a thing through being far too small for the game - he tried and worked, but he was simply muscled off the ball at every opportunity. Tonge may as well have not turned up, and 'Keef' didn't exactly uproot any trees either. Danny Webber was another player who should perhaps have stayed on the coach.

Now after a wonderful win and performance against Arsenal, we have let ourselves down by not coming away from the Riverside with at least a point. Let's hope this isn't a hint at how the rest of 2007 will go for us.

Up the Blades.

As far as I'm concerned Paul Gerrard was about 50% responsible for the 3-1 defeat on monday, he's appalling. They should pay me what they pay him and I promise to be just as crap, although even I wouldn't try that pathetic little leg flail when it was boro's penalty.

Still, good win guys, you did deserve it.

I seriously think that Sheffield Utd would have been better off with Jagielka in goal than Paul Gerrard, he was aweful. You could see the defence had no confidence in him and how if affected your centre backs.
I think that we were good value for our win even and it looked like a game too many for Sheffield Utd. I was impressed with the number of away fans that turned up though.
