Six to watch in 2007

comment on the article

It has become an annual custom for me to pick half a dozen players who I think it is worth everyone keeping an eye on during the summer ahead.

The selection criteria ('criteria' makes my choices sound authoritative - although 'guess' might be a more accurate word) involves picking three promising players from around the county circuit, one each from the two touring sides - in 2007 it's West Indies and India - and a member of the England women's team.

Like Wisden, players chosen in previous years cannot reappear.

This year's choices are Steven Davies, Adil Rashid, Nick Compton, Jerome Taylor and Shanthakumaran Sreesanth and Sarah Taylor. You can read more about them here: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cri...

I deliberately haven't picked players who might make an impact at the World Cup - I've focused on the 2007 English season - but there's nothing to stop you doing so.

Why not nominate a few players of your own who you expect big things from over the next 12 months?

I second that mate Dimi can do much better than some of the current so called bits and peices players

I think Dimi will make a great ODI player

I would have to go for Ben Harmison, Graham Onions, Adil Rashid, Nick Compton. Also looking forward to seeing how Michael Lumb gets on at his new county - I was gutted he left Yorkshire but have to admit it could be the making of him as I think he has lots of talent.

I don't know much about Lumb, but as I am a hants supporter i hope he does well for us. It is also good that Michael Carberry is in the england a squad, he is a brilliant batsman and excellent fielder. He was my hants player of the season last year

I would just like to add Mark Wallace of Glamorgan and Scott Newman, Jon Batty and Rikki Clarke of Surrey to the list I gave yesterday.

I also like the look of the England A squad to tour Bangladesh. My team for the three and four games on that tour would be:
Jefferson
Compton
Yardy ( Capt )
Bopara
Prior
Davies ( WK )
Rashid
Bresnan
Broad
Smith
Onions

If players were like stocks and their relative ICC rankings were like performance indicators
(Test and ODI)

Here is my list of 'stocks' I think will go up in value smiley

1. Tendulkar (good buy at low 40s in rankings)
2. Pieterson (hot scrip!)
3. Mike Hussey (blue chip)
4. Ntini (undervalued super scripsmiley
5. Mohd. Asif (under valued)
6. Brett Lee (under valued)

Congratulations Shanthakumaran Sreesanth

A well deserved "one of 6 players to watch out for in 2007" as India’s current form seamer and as one of Matrrixx’s sponsored players

I wish you all the best in 2007
