Jose hits out at Chelsea form

Premiership Chelsea
comment on the article

Jose Mourinho has made a scathing assessment of Chelsea after the draw with Fulham left them six points behind Premiership leaders Manchester United.

On Saturday the Blues were held to a second 2-2 draw at home in a week after a Boxing Day point against Reading and Mourinho said: "This is not a surprise.

"In this moment Chelsea cannot defend. I am the first to know that.

"Maybe we are not as good as we think, maybe I am not such a good boss, maybe the players are not such good players."

>It's absolutely amazing how selective some people's memories can be. Reading all these comments from man u fans about how jose's comments will upset the players and cause them to under perform even further, clearly forgetting how roy keane did the exact same thing last year, and consequently man u turned their season around and actually closed the gap in the second half of the season. I guess it's more fun to 'forget' things like that.

To be fair nobody outside Old Trafford really knows what Roy Keane said as, unlike Mourinho’s outburst, his comments were never broadcast publicly so I wouldn’t say it’s the “exact same thing” But if we go with your analogy, does that mean we can expect to see Chelsea finish second and Mourinho on his way?

Re: Baby Boy Blue

>Look at you I dont care how much they spent. the 2002/2003 season Man Utd bought Veron £30m, Van Nistelrooy £19m, Millar 7m, £29.1 (months earlier)

United bought Veron for £28.1 million not £30 million. Also, Veron and Van Nistelrooy both came to United in 2001, not the 2002/2003 season.

Liam Miller came to United in 2004 but it was through a pre-contract agreement (free transfer) with Celtic, not 7m.

The £29.1 million that you refer to I’m assuming is Rio. Rio was bought in 2002 after the world cup, not ‘months earlier’ than Veron and Van Nistelrooy. Veron and Van Nistelrooy had both already been at Old Trafford for one season before Rio arrived.

That is all.

thatswhywerechampions.there is nothing wrong with my last statement.the glazers only own manchester utd to make a quick buck.so to sell the club while still in the red would seem unnattractive you berk.

Jose is naming names and kicking backsides in public.
This is not the usual approuch by managers in the EPL.
I think he is not helping matters by saying over and over how he wants JT and Cech back...it sends the wrong message to the other players and gives SAF and Man U even more belief their going to take it this year.
He needs to take a chill pill and shut it for a while.

naming players can work 2 ways.
the player can either give up and say whats the point in trying if he [the manager] is not seeing my work.
or
the player could try extra hard so that he [manager] can see their quality skills.
It all depends on the player

When Gallas left I knew writing was on the wall. The departures of Gallas and Huth (he had to go - never a Chelsea player) left us short in central defence, and right back. JM could see both departures were imminent and did NOTHING until the panic signing of Boulharouz - a Dutch Robert Huth. Meantime, Barcelona quietly signed two world class defenders from Juve, why weren't we in that market? JM complains we do not have a right back - something he could have seen 6 months ago. Anyone who follows Chelsea will know we were always a better side with Gudjohnsen playing. Yet apparently JM could see no role for him even though selling him left only 3 recognised strikers (a term I apply loosely to Shevchenko and Kalou. No-one can seriously tell me Eidur would not walk into our current side. Talking of signings, Kalou is potential. Sheva was always going to be a disaster - yet another player who made his name in Serie A but finds the PL too much to handle - and Ballack looked a spent force in the World Cup. Any PL squad should contain 4 specialist central defenders and 4 strikers - JM has failed to provide this. I am not encouraged by reports he does not seem keen to reinforce in January. I wish Petr well but we must sign another quality keeper, we don't know how he's going to be after injury - Buffon on loan even? And JM is relying on JT coming back, which still doesn't address the issue of being at least one central defender short, nor the right back and striker problem. It seems incredible that the 2006/07 Chelsea with all our resources finds itself with a squad in this position, and may have to relay on January sales to pull something out of the fire. I love Mourinho but I have to say last summer he was complacent and careless with the squad, and we are now paying for it.

i doubt jose will sack himself if thats what you mean, but as for finishing second i think the big difference is we are only 7 (possibly 4 by the end of today) points behind, while united were something like 20 points behind at that point last year. also maybe im thinking about something else but wasn't keane's rant broadcast on MU tv?

I liked to read Mourinho's comments - they were spot on.

However, he's paid the big bucks to fix it - SO FIX IT. He gets kudos for stating the obvious, but that's as far as it goes. It's at times like this that a truly great manager shows us what he's made of - so step up Mr. Mourinho.
