Pressley to Charlton?

Premiership Charlton Athletic
comment on the article

New Charlton boss Alan Pardew is set to hold talks with former Hearts captain Steven Pressley in the next 24 hours over a possible move to The Valley.

The 33-year-old defender watched the relegation-threatened Addicks draw with Fulham in the Premiership on Wednesday.

And Pardew said: "There is a good chance he will be at Charlton."

The Scotland international is a free agent after leaving Hearts earlier this month following his criticism of majority shareholder Vladimir Romanov.

Give your thoughts on this transfer news. Would you like to see Pressley move to The Valley?

Pressley would be a good signing for charlton, i mean look at there defence at the moment and i dont think hes good enough for celtic anymore. As a rangers fan however i am unsure if he would be good for rangers as of course they are in a bit of a pickle of their own and are in dier need of a good centre back.
And for anyone who calls the spl easy i would like to say how "hard" is the premiership. Yes the big 4 are tough but not unbeatable and for the rest im sure the top 6 in scotland could give them a run for there money.

Yet again the debate over a Scotsmans move to an English club has decended into a 'My team/nation/league is better than yours' argument. I'm a Celtic fan. The fact is, overall, the EPL is much better than the SPL. The fact also is that, for different reasons, both Celtic and Charlton would benefit from signing Pressley. Okay, he's no world beater and is coming to the end of his career but, as a short term signing, he wouldn't let anybody down. He'd give 100% which is aroung 90% more than anyone at Charlton is giving at the moment. For Celtic, where the league's as good as won, he'd fill a gap until the end of the season.

russel anderson at aberdeen is my preffered choice, cheap and also wages are cheap which still leaves room for plenty more for other players, pressley is second rate and would be a start for charlton in the championship bound but I still feel its a real step down to charlton as anyone witha football knowledge would understand, not that I think the english haven't got one since they dont know football exists outside their little shell but hey! got to give it you guys the arrogance of you lot down their is secind to none oklaugh eejits

There can't be much doubt that overall the EPL is the better league but Celtic are a class club and I would be suprised if they couldn't find anyone better than Pressley, I think they're just going for the easy buy.

Having said that, I do think Pressley is better than some of the defenders they have at the moment, don't know which joker suggested Balde is better than him but they are wrong, Balde's a terrible defender and a thug to boot.

I feel that the weak point for both Celtic and Rangers (although Rangers more so) is their defence and Elvis would be an easy signing for either club. If I were him I would much rather join a big club in the SPL than a struggler in the EPL, but I get the impression that he likes to feel important at his club. He's a stong character and might enjoy the idea of helping charlton out of relegation, who knows.

One thing is for sure, the way he got treated by the Hearts board was disgraceful.

It is quiote simple. Until Balde broke his leg Pressley would have been a standby at Celtic Park but guaranteed a place at Charlton. This is why he is looking at the English club but if Strachan indicates he will get a regular place he will go there. Charlton are sure fire losers on their way to the second stream of the English league whatever they call it nowadays.

However I think Celtic need to develop their own players like O'Dea who is a CB who can pass the ball unlike Presslley who is just a stopper and in any case cup tied for Europe. With Gary Caldwell on his way back waht is the point of this signing?

The whole point of this signing is Pressley has proved he can play in the SPL and even if it is only short term he will do a good job for Celtic.Steven would struggle in the EPL bearing in mind you are only as good as the players around you and at the moment Charlton don't have many good ones.

in terms of having opportunity to win things i guess charlton may be a step down from hearts.......

pressley would be training with far better players at charlton, hearts would be in no better position than charlton are if they were competing in the premier league.... a generation of lithuanian n'eer do wells can just about manage to hang on to 4th in the SPL.

the arrongant 'eejits' would be the ones who think the SPL is of any higher standard than the english league one erm

celtic haven't even got rangers as competition anymore

Frankly if he's a Hearts 'legend' it says a lot about their status (or lack of) as a club. Pressley is a poor defender whose liabilities have been outed far too often. Whilst other clubs reserve the term 'legend' for true greats in their side, it says it all that such a limited player as Pressley is, is regarded as a 'legend' at Hearts. Who else, Stephane Adam? Dave McPherson? Haud me back!
