Tottenham v Aston Villa

Premiership Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham v Aston Villa

This is an interesting game to start to try and predict - White Hart Lane has become something of a fortress this season with Spurs picking up seven wins and a draw out of their nine home games.

Home win then - it must be I hear you all saying...but hang on half a mo - look at Villa's away record - only one defeat in nine...not bad at all, although of the other eight games, seven have ended in draws...

So, what is going to be served up on Boxing Day in north London?

For me, this is the toughest game of the day to predict. I'm going for a draw - only on the back of a hunch as much as anything else. Your thoughts?

"Arsenal were consistantly better than spurs last year and did beat you with ease and rarely looked threatend this year."

Err it was 1-1 at WHL and Highbury, get your facts straight mate. If it wasn't for the dodgy lasagne before the west ham game, Arsenal wouldn't be in the CL right now.

************

what ever you cant blame the way the league table looked on one game!!

that was your only shot at "glory" everton had it the year before by finishing above liverpool but you did not have the GUTS to take it.

you wont be so close for another 5 years.

or maybe 50 years.

If you have supported our beloved club for 45 years you will remember the glory years, however you will also remember the nothingness we have endured in the late 80's and 90's. We endured Fransis, Gross, Graham, hoddle, ardilies, and santini, with the exception of Venables and now Jol all the other managers were dross. Jol in my opinion will lead us to bigger and better places. Last season (his first full season) cups aside we had a wonderful season finishing 5th. this season we stuttered league wise at the begining but our performances in the carling and UEFA cups have been excellent. I really dont think as supporters we have anything to moan about. We aint doing a chelsea or Man Utd (yet), but then again we aint doing a West ham or Charlton, the team is decent and our league place is decent. I for one am enjoying being a spurs fan again, like you its in my blood and my families blood, whether we are in top 4 of PL or bottom part of Championship, i will always support MY club,

I really enjoy watching Berbatov, he always tries to do something a bit classy (sometimes without need, sometimes he fails but whatever, I still like that). He's on my fantasy team and getting me loads of assist points.

I always like watching Spurs a lot more than I expect to, I think they've usurped Newcastle as my second team. Jol is fine, he's not an amazing coach but he's good and you've gotta love listening to him in interviews, cracks me up every time. Something about the way he hardly opens his mouth as well, so funny.

Too Long - You are so wrong it hurts.

The reason Jol is such a great coach is that he has a skill that is more important than any 'Tactic'.

Tactics are all about luck and if it goes your way people go crazy and call you a genius but i can set out many a tactic and i am not a Football manager.

The biggest tool a manager has is the respect and belife of his squad.

The skill is called 'Man Management'. this alone makes the difference and Jol has this in abundance. The Boys respect him, listen to him and play for him and with his level of respect both on the pitch and with the media means he is liked by all.

I think you are a WUM and lack any knowledge of football if you attack a manager who by all regards is one of the most respected in europe let alone the Premiership. Losing Jol will be the bigest mistake this great club could make.

I have seen the dross of this club being a fan for only 17 years. my only memory of glory has been 1 F.A Cup and the league cup before now where i can actually see a good future and a good squad. Dont give me the 45 year line, if you are a fan your a rubbish one and 1 we can do without mate, give your season ticket to someone who want this team and manager to be somthing and go hunt another team to infect with your gloom. im board of hearing moaning Spurs fans.

I am sorry that “Mackin_Sundays” should feel the need to resort to personal abuse and that the BBC should think that it is appropriate that this sort of playground taunting should be allowed on this site. To express a well-thought through point of view based on practical experience and knowledge does not make me a “WUM”. Nor do I “lack any knowledge of football" as suggested – rather the reverse. Hence my well-crafted comments on Jol. And I resent very much you childish remark that I am a “rubbish fan”. Loyalty requires us to tell the truth as we see it and that makes me a great fan I think!

I suspect that Mr Levy would agree with much of what I say and that Jol could well be on his bike earlier rather than later in 2007.

By the way, GROW UP!

Your comment "Jol has won nothing since he arrived at Spurs" is very misleading. He may not have won anything but he has achieved a lot.

Despite taking over after 17 games as a caretaker manager in the 2004-2005 season he still managed to take Spurs to 9th place, their highest position in nine seasons.

In his first full season as manager he took Spurs to 5th to get Tottenham into the UEFA Cup for the first time in seven years, also they never dropped out of the top six in the league all season.

So far this season they are still in the UEFA Cup and have beaten Chelsea at home for the first time since 1987, and also the first time ever in Premiership history. OK so their away form in England hasn't been great so far but they are still in a decent position and have been cosntantly improving. I would expect them to finish in the top eight at the very least.

I don't think these are the achievements of a man who doesn't know what he's doing.

Long Stop what are you on about? Frankly I don't care if you've been supporting Spurs for 45 or 450 years, you're still moaning for no reason. You blame Jol for Spurs outspending Arsenal for many years - yet Jol has only been manager of Spurs for 2 years. In his only full season with us we finished 5th, a whisker away from 4th.
If you are constantly comparing the Spurs of today with the 60s side, you'll never be satisfied. Get over it, and get behind the team and the manager - like the rest of us are doing.

Grow up?

Well how grown up of you!

You are quick to say the negative aspects of my post but ignore my points.

If you think Tactics are the problem (which is how I read the post before) then I am telling you are wrong.

Tactics mean very little between most if not all managers in Football.

Money and Man management skills mean everything.

I believe Jol is a great man manager.

Sorry for any offence I don’t want to do that. But I do get wound up by people berating the club constantly even when we are in the position we are in.

Oh and im sure levy would laugh you out the office. He is sitting on a very good thing at Spurs and would tell you a lot of that is down to Jol. He will be here well past 2007.

Get a glass of milk fill it up half way and repeat:

The glass is half full, the glass is half full, the glass is half full!

May not do the trick but you may stop posting such negativity on these boards.

And I know every one has an opinion but to be 100% against the team is unproductive and boring. We all have our gripes but at least we can still be happy with what we are achieving.

Just thought I'd stick my oar in by stating that Long Stop is a chump - think you'd be more suited to the emirates.

********

eh? tactics are pretty important as is team selection.

how can Jol have good management?

his team selction is all over the place.

it seems he waits for a striker to hit form and then he drops him. like clockwork.

you think defoe is impressed with being benched all season the year of the world cup? no questions Jol cost defoe his WC place.
