Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan believes there are three candidates for the England captaincy for the Commonwealth Bank one-day tournament in the New Year.

Vaughan told BBC Radio Five Live: "There's myself, there's Andrew Flintoff and there's Andrew Strauss to think of as being the captain.

"Andrew Flintoff was given the job for the whole of the Test series and he seems to be doing a good job.

"Let's see how we go in the next two games then they'll make a decision."

Who do think should captain the side in the one-day clashes?

It's a shame that gaining/keeping captaincy has taken precedence over a series of note.

England might have been better served with its players channelizing their energies and concentration to stay out there on the wicket that one last day twice!

The series scoreline might have been very different at this point and very different from the point it will end up at after this drama too is played out in its every nuance.

if vaughn is fit for the world cup he should captain the england team.his tactical play will bring a new dimension to english cricket.freddie is our playmaker he doesn't need anymore to think about aswell as his batting and bowling.while strauss isn't a natural leader but can do a job when needed but not when we have vaughn in the locker

Geraint Jones was dropped from the ODI squad because of poor performance.
Why was Mahmood not dropped for poor performances?

Vaughan's ODI batting record is anyway pretty mediocre. And now he's coming off a long lay-off. If he were appointed captain, he'd "block" a batting slot in every match irrespective of how he performs. Surely it makes sense to appoint a captain whose place in the final eleven is a certainty. Let's stay with Flintoff.

People who criticise Strauss' form are being a tad unfair. Let's face it, he had three rough decisions. In the second innings at Adelaide he and Bell had batted superbly and looked set to put on a big partnership - he played Warne extremely well. He was out for 42 in the third test and looked in good nick - when Strauss gets in he ususally gets big scores, has a great 50-100 conversion rate, and he looked like getting a big score.

I wouldn't worry about his form; he is in good nick and a big innings is just around the corner.

Vaughn is not ready yet but if he is fielded as capatain, it is not a bad move

It doesn't make sense to me that Vaughan is in the squad when he clearly isn't fully fit. It would be absolute madness to burden him with the captaincy, but I think he will be captain. After all, Flintoff is captain of the Ashes squad and he's not fully fit either. It can only be hoped that the selectors will recognise the foolishness of appointing a captain who isn't fully fit. Vaughan and Flintoff are simply not fit enough to be burdened with the captaincy. It has to be Strauss.

why are we playing for the future.we need a team now thats going to win games not one that is going to compete in 2 or 3 years.the youngsters are going to be better of playing county cricket instead of being in the england squad and watching.its time the media stopped crictising our own players and started backing them.thats how the aussies are so good because everyone gets behind them even when there getting beat
