Gordon keeps Hearts captaincy

Scottish Premier Heart of Midlothian
comment on the article

Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon will remain club captain after attending an internal disciplinary hearing.

Gordon appeared at a media conference alongside former captain Steven Pressley in October, when the latter said there was "dressing-room unrest".

The Scotland goalkeeper, 23, attended a hearing at Tynecastle on Tuesday and refused to comment afterwards.

Players' union chief Fraser Wishart said he expected Gordon to play against Dundee United at the weekend.

This site format is gash, there is no one from the good old days before the format changed sadface. The only reason Gordon and Hartley were not sacked is because of their transfer value that reason and that alone

I think Hearts have acted in the correct manner in disciplining the three players who spoke out about the state of affairs at Hearts at the moment.

No other organisation in the world of business would stand back and allow their employees to break ranks and go public about issues which should be dealt with in-house.

Perhaps these players are trying to deflect attention from their own substandard performances on the pitch.

It hasn't worked, hoewever - I've noticed how badly they're playing.

Aberdeen fan, by the way - EASY!

I'm appalled at the reaction of some of my fellow jambos in their criticism of Pressley, and in turn Hartley and Gordon, for showing courage and standing up for fairness and principle. None of them deserved to be treated the way they have.

PCW1874 – Rot……How do you think you would be treated if you went on the telly and told the world you thought your boss was an egotistically, power hungry lunatic hell bent on destroying the company. Frankly, I thought Pressley was lucky to walk away with any sort of settlement. I’ve never understood why sportspeople, politions, celebs, etc. get rewarded for screwing up there job when they get their jotters.

What drivel, 3600milesfaehame. People forget, that football is one of few occupations in the world where the employers are actually the fans. No fans paying at turnstiles, watching TV, buying merchandise, etc. = no club.

With no explanantion coming from the club, who should have a duty of care to fans first, as to why form had been so bad, the club captain stepped up to the front, took a risk and put his money where his mouth was and spoke up. Good for him, and all he did was say morale was low and the club needed stability, I don't think he said lunatic once! All perfectly valid things for a club captain and senior player (employee) to say. But the number of folk, mostly narrowminded old firm fans, who think these players deserved the sack astounds me.

In a similar vein, I see Barry Ferguson has questioned his manager publicly on the importance of the Rangers captaincy, Should we sack him too?

Or should we sack any player who uses the media to express disappointmet at not being picked by his manager?

I don't think so.

The jambos must be playing badly if the Dons are beating us. Bring on Skonto Riga and Bohemians!

Ehh…No the fans are not the employers. The fans are the customers. The employer is the club, they produce the product. You pay to buy the product.

Just because the money that you pay goes towards the players wages, does not make you the employer. If you are the employer, can you sack players, can you buy players, can you make decisions that effect the day to day running of the club….No

Just because you purchase a ticket to travel on the trains…does not mean you own Scotrail (or whoever the hell it is these days).

You cannot equate fans to customers and football clubs to the providers of product and commodity. It's not so simple.

Sport is unique, football especially so. There is no doubt that football clubs are businesses, but they are so different from any other business.

Clubs hold places in the hearts and minds of people, which far outweigh any rationale or logic of the business model. I'd never consider going to a match at Easter Road, just because their ticket prices were cheaper, for example. Nor do you see car owners having banter with each other over the difference between unleaded premium or diesel at the petrol station. Or folk chanting songs about Scotrail.

In that respect, the fans of football clubs are employers, because that's where the moral and spiritual ownership of the brand belongs. It's on this basis that football, indeed sport, as a business, exists.

The giveaway is in the word CLUB.
