Gilchrist comes to the party

Test cricket Australia
comment on the article

What an unbelieveable innings from Adam Gilchrist at the Waca today.

He rode his luck early on and then cut loose with some of the finest hitting I have seen in many a year - the three sixes he bludgeoned off Panesar in one over, was truly amazing.

Australia were already comfortably ahead in this game before Gilchrist's innings completely took the game away from England.

It was a shame that he missed out on Viv Richards record of the quickest Test-match Ton, but it was still an incredible hitting display.

What's your thoughts on the knock?

curtinman:

flintoff did bowl a few overs to gilchrist, from around the wicket, but apart from one dodgy shot, (which he still controlled enough), he had no trouble there at all. He played like he did in the adelaide 2nd innings.

then once he really got going, if flintoff brought himself back on, he'd most likely have been murdered. Bowling over the wicket isn't a vice like grip anywhere apart from in the mind. Once gilchrist broke free mentally, it wouldn't have made a difference anymore.

I'm really pleased for the Australians. I like to do see them do well in sport, the one thing thing they are good at.

It was a good innings but not a patch on New Zealand's Nathan Astle when he scored 222 against England in 2002 to claim the the fastest ever double ton in test history

astle's was made when the pressure was off (they were going to lose), and on a ground that was half the size of the WACA (jade stadium - rugby ground)

Smaller pitch or not he still went from 100 to 200 in 39 balls.

awesome for him.

but my point was that half of them were still mis hit and wouldnt have carried at the waca or any australian ground. you know how small the square boundaries at jade stadium are and thats where most of the shots went. i watched the innings.

also the pressure was completely off, as they were going to lose by a big margin.
