Rangers managed to top group A thanks to a second half header from defender Alan Hutton but they missed a bucket load of chances along the way.

Paul Le Guen rested key players such as Barry Ferguson and Dado Prso ahead of the Old Firm derby and bought in Thomas Buffel, Filip Sebo, Julien Rodriguez, Makhtar N'Diaye and captain for the night Gavin Rae.

Rangers were looking to equal there record of 12 european games undefeated and they managed it tonight and they maybe should have had a penalty when Thomas Buffel went down in the box after just 5 minutes but the Referee wrong in my view from where I was sitting waved play on.

Partizan nearly scored on 9 minutes when a cross into the box should have been headed in however Nenad Mirosavljevic headed it across the box and Rangers cleared the danger.

However soon after Rangers hit the post when after nice play beetween Nacho Novo and Gavin Rae. Gavin Rae hit the post to the annoyance of the Rangers fans.

Rangers were dominatinating but were struggling to create real chances but the first fell to Filip Sebo who with his first shot was blocked by the keeper and the second hit the keeper's legs the pain was evident to see.

Rangers seemed to up the tempo after this miss with Buffel shooting straight at the keeper and then flighting a free kick over before the best chance of the half for Rangers fell to Nacho Novo but the keeper blocked well again with his feet.

When the team came out for the 2nd half Rangers coutined to control the game and the goal came through a Nacho Novo free kick when he flighted it in and Alan Hutton powered a header home.

Rangers relaxed and Partizan started to come back into to the game with Allan Mcgregor forced into a decent save from Ivan Tomic.

However Partizan should have equalised when Mirosavljevic held off Karl Svensonn to set up Ljubisa Vukelja who from 8 yards out fired wide. Then Allan Mcgregor made a great save from a Nenad Marinkovic's close range shot.

Looks like someone's just farted in someone's pint of guiness!. B.S. aside, thought that was a good performance from some second string players. Not a great deal to shout about, but definately some players to watch. Thought Sebo was unlucky, but also showed why he's not first choice. Hutton's goal though, as good as Scott Nesbitt's against Marseille many moons ago! I think you can see the lack of first team matches showing in some players though. I also hope PLG doesn't go with Rodriguez on Sunday, hasn't played enough games with Old King Karl at the back...

There's nothing to be exciting about...Partizan missed Kralj(first-choice gk) as well as two other goalkeepers Jahic and Pantic(Asprogenis was 4th choice), captain Albert Nadj, top scorer Odita, key defenders Bajic, Cirkovic, last season's top scorer Radonjic(20 goals) will leave the club, att mid/forward Boya is on the way out as well, star midfielder Brnovic is ruled out through serious injury, etc...Partizan played with some kids, but enjoyed a lot of possession on the night and definitely showed more talent than Rangers who created a few good chances, but there was nothing impressive in them.

No, i think if you read the post match comments by both managers, I think there was a professional understanding that it was a case of giving younger players a run out and a bit of European experience. Almost a friendly, but hopefully appreciated by travelling fans and the players who played in it.
