Although both managers acted out of order and character a few things I feel should be mentioned.

1) A £10,000 fine for a push is ridiculous. How many fans at each game get into a pushing or shoving match with opposing fans? How many people outside a club do you see push someone? Do THEY get fined?? Sure as hell bet they dont.

2) Pardrew is more than entitled to celebrate his goal considering the pressure he was under. What he is NOT entitled to is to come across to the Arsenal technical area and do it infront of the Arsenal bench. And considering he made a "comment" at Arsene as well its little wonder there was a reaction.

But no matter what, the situation is done and over, and can be put behind the team.

Pardew was undoubtedly overzealous in his celebrations. Comparing Wenger's conduct to members of the ordinary public is dangerous because Wenger is a high profile personality who coaches a big London premiership team. He is by the very nature of his position held to higher standards of conduct than the average bunch of lads pre-disposed to consuming large amounts of alcohol on a Friday or Saturday night. If anything the £10, 000 is a derisory and laughable amount of money to a man of Wenger's financial pedigree!! More stern punishment was warranted!!

mastermasterclass

I am not defending his reaction as such but to suggest that he is subject to a different rule of law than the normal public is ludicrous.

There is hundreds of incidents each day of people pushing each other etc in anger or in frustation. To suggest that they should be subject to a completly different type of law just because they are not famous enough to warrant it is insane.

As ludicrous as it might sound, he is actually held to a higher standard than the average public house patron. He is an ambassador for Arsenal, a team which plays in England's top footballing league. It is like fulfilling a public role, where decoroum, professionalism and scruples come with the job. In 1995, Eric Cantona's parentage was questioned by a Palace fan. He lost it and launched a kung fu kick almost as sublime as his footballing ability. I don't remember Man Utd or even Cantona appealing the 9 months ban. For god sake...a mere 10, 000 fine is daylight robbery, especially when it is the MANAGER of the team involved!! One cannot dismiss the incident as pure handbags especially when a fugurehead is involved who resorts to violence. Violence encompasses non-consensual contact, whether it is a kung fu kick or pushing a man half your size!!

The more influential you are the better the behaviour is expected. When arsenal's players see their manager dislaying such petulance, they could vindicate themselves when they start pushing other players. Cantona was idolized by millions of young fans, and it was important he got punished so his fans realize the moral and social incorrectness of his actions. You can't compare these public figureheads to a bunch of lager louts...

I am sorry but I cant agree with that. It was a push. So bloody what. You cant even compare the situation to Cantonas as theres a big difference between a push and a flying karate kick that would put Bruce Lee to shame.

All said and done I think the situation was made a big deal of. I wonder if Big sam and Stuart Pearce done the same thing there would be the same foror surrounding this.

No doubt someone would say that was fine because it was displaying "English passion"

Done and dusted now anyways. Lets move on.

To be fair sabs, AW was rather goaded on, wouldn't you say? Have a read of Amy Lawrence in the Guardian last week. All Wenger did was not shake hands. Sparky is clearly under a lot of pressure, takes it out on his opponents by goading them and then whinges because they respond to your lack of respect by not shaking your hand? AW was in the wrong last time but but here.
