Steven Pressley has left Hearts, do you think Burley will try and tempt him to come to Saints, after all it worked with Skacel

The championship may or may not be a higher standard than the rest of the SPL, most current SPL sides would probably be able to hold their own in there somwehere with Hearts and Hibs maybe making an impact probably not doing that much worse than Southampton. But if Celtic and Rangers were to go into the Premiership their following and marketability along with the increased share in tv money would pretty much put them on a level with teams like liverpool and capable of challenging at the top (Martin O'Neill would much rather manage celtic in the premiership than aston villa). And if they were challenging at the top then speaking as a scotsman (although not a celtic or rangers fan) those scotland v england clashes would never lose me their appeal.

You've all overlooked one very important reason why Pressley would jump at coming to Saints.

When his child is born down here he or she could be classed as English, not only English but Sotonian English. What better start in life could a father give to his child? winkeye

Emmmm excuse me wee person.....how is the championship any better than the SPL? And the fact that Celtic bet Man U who currently sit at the top of the Premiership doesnt give you a hint that scotland does actually have good talent.....try beating france yoo english eejit!

spot on jambosoph

its soemthing us scots have to live with! the english superiority complex

sorry but anyone who actually thinks the championship is better than the SPL is nuts. hearts, hibs, aberdeen and kilmarnock are too good for the championshsip. never mind rangers and celtic!

hearts and hibs are even better than rangers jsut now...andrangers are good ons for the uefa cup

our national team ops a group containing thw world cup finalists but

no

still we're a terrible nation..terrible league

absolute nonsense. for our size we're extremely good. but on the whole we're pretty decent anyway

the spl lies somewhere between the dutch league and the czech league

yet again the scottish chip on the shoulder is well in evidence! If you disregard Celtic and Rangers which are obviously both very big clubs then there are a dozen championship teams bigger than the likes of Hearts. the standard of champ football gets criticised but for instance there are a number of players in the SPL who had previously played in England at a standard below the champ and never even tempted champ clubs - e.g. Chris Killen (Oldham to Hibs) and Danny Invincibile (Swindon to Kilmarnock).

He might go to Dundee United...Craig Levein is there and Hearts bought him from United. I think if you cut out a couple of teams from the Championship then maybe they would about match but I think the SPL is more exciting and let's not forget, by playing in the SPL you can gain a spot in Europe, you can't in the Championship. The Championship is also full of players who are fallen stars from bigger teams, players who didn't deliver or players who wanted more money than they deserved and were dropped down a level. Anyway Pressley would do well going to Southampton but I think he'll remain in Scotland. Rangers certainly need him to arrange that dreadful defense.

I think your all getting off the point here!
Look at the amount of ex "Burley" players that have chosen to follow him around in there careers and jump ship back to him at the first available point ie Rudi Skacel who had the chance of playing Champs League this year but instead he went on strike until he was sold to Southampton!!
Oh and just for the record SPL is a mickey mouse league with two and half teams worth noting in it!!
The championship has I believe been voted the sixth best league in europe behind the top leagues in England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and possibly Holland. frankly I'd rather watch the Bangledeshi Superleague than the SPL!!

In terms of club size outside the Old Firm the rest are tiny maybe excluding hearts if their owner sorted it out. In England you even have big clubs like Notts Forest lingering outside the championship.

Hearts woule have bigger crowds if their stadium was bigger, they are full to capacity and have 5000 on a waiting list for season tickets. Easily 23-25 000 home attendances.

And bearing in mind England is 10 times bigger than Scotland!

I know for a FACT that there is not a player in the WHOLE Championship fit to lace Craig Gordons boots, so we have at least one player better than ANYTHING in the Championship.
