Benitez admits to errors

European Football Liverpool
comment on the article

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez admitted his under-strength side had paid for a series of mistakes in the Champions League defeat at Galatasaray.

They lost 3-2 in Istanbul, but had already finished top of Group C.

Benitez said: "We paid for bad mistakes - you cannot expect to win if you make mistakes like that at this level.

"I always felt it was going to be a difficult game for the players. They knew they were already group winners and the job had been done."

What are your thoughts on Benitez's decision?

Louise I don't think he thinks playing the youngsters was an error. He thinks (and it's quite obvious when you watch the goals) that mistakes at the back cost us a possibly good result. The first goal was a bad back pass from Alonso. The second was a great shot from distance that probably should have been closed down but blame cannot be placed firmly anywhere for that one. The third was Riise being caught too far up field, bursting a gut to get into position and then failing to make a telling tackle that would have ended the move from that position. Basically it was the experienced players taking risks they wouldn't take if the points were needed. No manager likes losing a game no matter how unimportant. It can affect confidence.

give the lads a chace. 50% of our team last night havnt played in the prem or even a single first team game. We were already through any. What would people think if he went with his best team and we came away with a couple of serious injuries?

i reckon we are doing ok. i would rather finish top than need a last day result like ars & mun u. As for the saints, they are actually my nearest team & a decent club with a good ground & nice feeling to the supporters etc. no quibbles. Its more your blue connection that i dislike!

One thing was apparent: Robbie Fowler is still Liverpool's second best player!
