Wenger right to 'rest' Henry

Arsenal

I don't believe that today's result will turn our season around, we beat Man Utd and Liverpool and then lost to 'lesser' teams. I don't think we really showed cutting edge, with two of our goals coming from penalties. But I think that finally Wenger has sent a message out to his players.

Listening to Henry on Radio 5 before the game (I was rushing through the traffic to get home in time to see it on Prem Plus) it sounds like Wenger told him he wasn't fit and wouldn't play. However you phrase it Henry was dropped. This sent out a message to the squad that no one player is more important than the team, that to keep their places they need to start performing.

What pleased me even more was Henry's reaction. His appearance in the tunnel, the fact that he was on the sidelines cheering on his team mates. You might say that it was just for show. But if that was the case I don't think he would have got such a positive response from his team mates (ie Adebayor running over to him after his goal).

Wenger hasn't criticised his team in public, probably because he knows that he has a lot of young players who need confidence. I believe that they needed a wake up call and seeing Henry being told he wouldn't play might just be it.

I still believe that our squad is short on strikers and cover for Gilberto. I still think we will have to battle to be sure of a place in next years CL. But I think Henry will benefit from a break and come back to top form and the players will start to be a little more thankfull for their starting place.

I am over the moon at todays 3-0 win and intend to continue to be in a good mood until the midweek game. Hopefully this time next week I will be even more delighted having seen my team qualify for the next round of the CL and beat Chelsea! (Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed). What a week that would be!

real arsenal fans need to get our heads out of the sand and face the facts. Wenger keeps looking for this perfect goal, whatever that is. The boys play some outstanding football only to waste it in the final 3rd. look at the goals scored against us,i mean the crapiest goals u ever saw but the teams still beat us dont they? RvP and Rosicky are the only ones that rarely shoot the ball. now tell me how u win games if u dont shoot? and most importantly noone remembers how good u played if u lost anyway. and even more important is the fact that the most memorable goal are almost always scored from distance.gooners please if u feel u can score please take the shot Wenger will still take credit for it. looool

Henry basically thinks he can just walk into the first time even if he is not fully fit. He feels he's the soul and heart of Arsenal and he has every right to. The guy is just too arrogant you can see it when he plays that he feels like he is at a very higher level than his team mates

with arsenal it shouldn't be down to a player and i think arsene played henry all this while to the teams detriment knownin the guy needs a long long rest after a hectic summer.that aside life must go on..so wat if henry had left after the paris final will arsenal not have played in this season.all said i tink the over-reliance on henry have to stop if we have to dream on dominance again in the prem..before henry there was wrighty

Regardless of whether the Wenger-Henry feud is a tempest in a teapot, a new striker is on my Christmas list and Arsene should add one to his, too.

I wish people would get off TH14's back. The man has been a great servant to the club as well as one of the finest players to ever pull on an Arsenal shirt. He has pledged his loyalty for the future. Wait until he's back rested and fully fit and witness the transformation! There isn't a team in the world, let alone the Premiership that wouldn't snap him up if given the chance.

two things, firstly i think that henry may go, not in january but at the end of the year, this is because i think with many clubs when players have bust ups with management, it is not long until they go there own way, SAF and ruud or beckham prime example, the players and managers said it was fine and then before you no it the players has left the club
secondly, do arsenal fans not think they play better football sometimes without henry playin, i mean there has been two high profile games this year without henry and arsenal have won, with great performances and whenever henry plays youre play is often predictable with the ball always expected to go out to henry for him to do something, ARSENAL play some of the best football i have ever seen and as a man u fan that is hard for me to say but they only seem to have one plan and that can often be there downfall because when it doesnt work they struggle but when it does, people just have to seat back and enjoy.

interested for your opinion as im bored at work

OK so what denotes a good finisher if not his ability to finish chances? Pires was exceptional at this and hence why is goals to shots ratio is so astounding.

I never said England where set up for Lampard quiet the oposite they need Lampard to do a job that he can't that of an attacking midfield playmaker.

So are United scoring mroe goals since Ruud left or when Ruud was here? Selling Ruud has changed how the whole team plays and now we have a lone striker that is actually good in the air and quick and the rest of the team are scoring more freely (11 different goal scorers so far this year).

So sometimes a player that bags alot of goals for himslef can actually hurt the team.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who's assist record? Lampards? 2 assists from open play last season. One assist in entire international career? Don't be fooled by his high assists from set pieces and his ability to contribute in open play. Chelsea rea the best set piece side in te contry and he takes all their set pieces that is where he gets his assists not from his passing ability (or lack there of) or from ever being unselfish.

I'm refering to Henry's assists during his time at Arsenal.

What assists from set pieces?

When last did you see Arsenal score from a corner delivered by Henry?

Henry's assists come from open play. Henry is unusual in the sence that, as strikers go, he is pretty unselfish

Henry is a fantastic player and once recorded I think 20 assists in one season whilst scoring the obligatory 30+ goals. He is not like a Ruud or Lmapard that just scores and does nothing else for the team. Trust me I wasn't having a go at Henry.

Henry is a bit like Gerrard for you. Easiloy the best player on the team and when he plays the entire team look to him if he isn't at his bestthe entire team falls apart. However if he isn't there in the first place then the quality of the rest of the team shows better and they can do very well.
