Pietersen's AshesTest cricket South Africa by rageten (U6484408) 02 December 2006 Can Pietersen inspire England to victory in the Ashes? I don't think it is about class or talent I think that it is about determination from the Aussies not to lose, seems like Pietersen is one of the few in this and the last series who are deteermined for England not to lose. In both series he has had valuble knocks not always leading to wins but sometimes to draws or less demoralising defeats. These knocks must help to inspire the rest of the team. nervoussince1981 (U6567007) posted Dec 2, 2006 No, I want them to but just cant see the bowling attack smashing the aussies batting twice in three days. The match will prob end a draw and its shame we have not got Monty playing seeing how we dont really need the extra runs from Giles. But thats the old hindsight for you.

Alittleoldman (U6767002) posted Dec 2, 2006 In a two innings match of 5 days or more, the side which bats first and leads by at least 200 runs after their opponents first innings has the option of asking them to bat again - called 'following on'. This gives them the opportunity of getting their opponents out again, without wasting time on a second innings for themselves. Of course, if the oppositions aggregate total from both innings is greater than the first innings score, the side who batted first can take their second innings. Before this can happen, Englan haveto get Australia out before they get within 200 runs of the English declaration. I've just realsied how easy cricket rules are until you tryto explain the! Good luck.
