HTFC - A Club in Crisis Part 2

League One Huddersfield Town
comment on the article

I started a thread on the old 606 called "Huddersfield Town - A club in Crisis" back in September, when we were having a bad patch of form. Well after a brief revival, we are slowly but surely slipping down to obscurity. Saturdays defeat to Oldham being the final straw for a lot of supporters. Another demonstration outside the ground, many calling for Peter Jacksons resignation (a view I still don't agree with, but I'll deal with that in a minute), others berating Ken Davy and the board - our beloved club is in trouble.

There are not many fans backing Jacko at the moment, with folk being unhappy at his team selections / formations / subtitutions and so on - but at 2-30 on Saturday afternoon which Terriers fan could honestly say they weren't happy with the team he was putting out - reverting to 4-4-2, recalls for Mirfin and Brandon - I thought defeat was out of the question, I should've known better.

So, the players aren't good enough on the face of it - does that mean it is all Jackos fault that the players aren't putting it all in?? I'm not saying PJ is totally blameless in all this, but the players should take some responsibility here. And the board, for not giving Jacko the funds and the backing the team deserves.

I still think Jacko should be our manager, but I don't suppose many will agree with me. With a few new faces in the transfer window in January, our season may not be finished just yet.

I'm struggling to understand whats happening in this league this year.

Whilst , it's predictable that teams would win, draw and lose games against the odds.

Brentford appear to have gone into meltdown - must have been a sure winner for a third year at the top but...Now look Hartlepool material.

Now the Terriers - appear to wanting to follow the tradition of one year playoiff next struggle to keep in the league. (The Trees did it in the championship a few seasons back - survived - then lost - here we are!!) I don't reccomend this approach. Follow a win by a win is a better idea.

So my Terrier friends. The team needs to turn it around and start winning. Is it the manager?
Is it the tactics?
Is it the players who think they are too good for this league?

Believe me it's called Gingerness!
Ours was caused by the manager!
Yours is caused by?????

Great post. I think too many fans are being ungreatfull of what jacko has done for the club. Its unfair to get rid of him. Having said that, his tactics are as imaginative as Sven's and substitutions are no better. The big problem is, the leagues got stronger and we havn't, where did all last seasons money go!? Somethings very wrong behind the scenes at this club. Jacko has said players will come and go in january, but im not so sure i believe it.

Hudders are tradionally a very strong team, with a "proper" history.I for one genuinely do not like to see big clubs(and in the context of this thread, you are a big club) struggle. As a Tranny fan, we have seen some highs and lows, even as recent as the last two years, play offs one year, needing to avoid defeat at the end of the season, to stay up, the next. I wish you well in your current plight, whatever happens, I for one am sure that you will get through it! Just one thing, could you afford us the time and space you lavished Oldham when we play you? Then go on a great run after that. GL. ok

Mallio, every town fan is greatfull to peter jackson and ken davy for what they have done but the point is we cant live in the past and just because jackson has done well in the past doesnt mean we shouldnt look at sacking him now.The man is clueless and clueless now ,yes he got us promoted but the point is he will also get us relegated but then i guess you will gladly sack him but then its too late.Act now before all the good he has done for the club is forgotton.
JACKSON OUT

TOWN FOREVER !!!!

The problem I feel does lie with Jackson. I welcomed him back with open arms 3 years ago as we were going out of business and needed a manager with an ego to raise peoples heads. However I now feel that he's taken us as far as he can based on the evidence to hand.

His transfer dealings have been questionable to say the least when you consider the latest two.

Glennon has been bought on the strength of one performance for Carlisle agaijnst Town two and a half years ago!. The guy might be vocal with his back four but he can't catch a cold and never comes off his line, and his kicking never fails to find touch. In my opinion he's the worst keeper I've seen at Town since Tim Clarke!. For my money Rabs is head and shoulders above this guy and should be given a good run in the side cause he can't be this bad.

On Beckett, I have utmost respect for Luke and I feel that he is a proven goalscorer at this level, but when you're looking at blowing you whole transfer budget on this player you have to question if its going to be worth it? When you look at how Oldham have done since they didn't splash all their cash on this player you have to admit that they got it right and PJ got it wrong. However the real pain in the backside about this whole situation is the way he plays or doesn't play Beckett. Luke is the type of player that thrives in the opposition penalty area anyone can see that, so what does our manager do...Have aimless long hoofs sent to Luke's bald patch in the hope he's gonna control the ball and smash it into the back of the net from 40 yards! It aint gonna happen Jacko get the ball on the deck and down the wings.

I could go on and on about the way we play as it's my pet hate at the moment but I'll say just one thing. I feel in Brandon and Schofield we have two of the most talented players in the division, however they come inside with the ball far too often when what they should be doing is going down the line using their skill and speed to get the ball deeper into the opposition half and into the box from the byline for people like Booth, Beckett and Abbott (given the chance)to put them away.

My last rant on Jackos transfer record can be summed up by three names....

John Newby
Junior Mendes
Mark Hudson

I rest my case..............

Maybe a Manager Loan deal with the Battums will change stuff.
Get Colin Todd in for a 6 week period and let Jack take care of the Terriers for 6 weeks.

The players will then find out that its them out there on the field not the manger.

Systems come and go but good play rises above it all!!

I'm not sure the manager has taken us as far as he can. HE took us to top of the league and to the brink of the premiership not to long ago. Ok, we collapsed that season and finished 8th, just short of the play-offs. But look what happened after that. Mr. scroogebury sacked Jacko and got a 'big name' manager. Our club crumbled and got two relegations in a couple of seasons. We don't know if the same would have happened with Jacko in charge. But one thing was obvious. The pation he had/and still has, wasn't seen back in any of the other managers. This season we have been awful. i haven't had a chance to see a game yet, but read all i can on town, and get a full match report every week.
Things aren't going well, but lets see the next two away games (we have performed, let's not say better, but haven't performed as bad at home as we have away)
If we do get 4 points from that, let's take it as a possitive, and try and give some backing to the team when they return home for the Northampton match.

Abuse doesn't help the team performance.

If we don't get four points away from home in the next two matches, it'll be time to put a tenner on town te get relegated.

Time to add my 2p worth to this deabte. Firstly, I don't get to watch town as often as I'd like, but what I've seen this season has to rank up there with some of the worst (and I started watching town in the "supermac" era so it's pretty bad!)

In my view, we have three of the best strikers in the division in Beckett, Abbott and GTF. Yet, Jackson continually misuses them. Long balls to Beckett when he clearly needs it to his feet. Abbott in and out of the team, obviously disliked by Jackson just because of one misplaced backpass over 2 years ago. GTF another player made to play out of position (remember Rob Edwards was a 20 goals a season man until Jackson turned him into a left back).

I believe that regardless of the issues surrounding the finances and running of the club, Jackson is not the man to take us foward on the field. We have a talented squad with some very promising young players and some wise old heads. They need decent leadership. I agree that Jackson did a good job in the past, but that's part of the problem. We need to forget the past and move on. There is probably a reason why Jackson has never managed another club, and I doubt that it's all about his passion for town.
