Nicol David

Top seed Nicol David retained her women's World Open title by holding off a strong challenge from Natalie Grinham in Sunday's final in Belfast.

David lost the opener and then fell in arrears at the Ulster Hall once more against Australian Grinham after winning a tight second game.

However, the Malaysian took the last two games to complete a 1-9 9-7 3-9 9-5 9-2 win over the fourth seed.

Give your thoughts on her win.

Nicol David has the spirit and will power of a real champion, she does not give up and above all else, she gives her opponents the respect they deserve. Her humility is what makes her special.

Nicol David looks to me to be to the women's game what Jahangir was to the men's, a dominator who is taking the game onto another level physically.

Grinham played at the top of her game for the first 3 but in the end lost out because she just could not match the fitness and intensity of David, the tempo she plays at, trying to volley everything, is just murderous. She will reign for a long time, and good to see that she is spreading the popularity of our game in SE Asia.
