Gloucester's Peter Buxton drives forward at the Memorial Stadium

Jason Strange struck a drop-goal with the last kick of the match to take Bristol top of the Premiership table.

Gloucester to looked to have won thanks to Willie Walker's 75th-minute penalty, but Bristol went through 17 phases to provide Strange with his chance.

Mark Regan's try and two David Hill kicks gave Bristol an 11-9 lead at the break in horrendous weather conditions.

The match became a war of attrition, but Strange handed Gloucester their first Premiership defeat of the season.

Fantastic game, great to know these games still happen -attritional rugby at its best! No complaints as a Gloucester supporter, although some old Gloucester front row forwards must be turning in their graves. All French front row failed when camped on Bristol line! Dan Ward-Smith must play for England!

Once again BBC reporting has let them down. I've complained in the past that it's often the case that the reporting match to match is inconsistent in content. Well, there's been attempt to improve that this time by more commentary, but sadly it's inaccurate. I was at the game and also recorded the match on SKY. (Hey Beeb, you've heard of SKY, yes?) I'm assuming that your reporters were at the bar when David Hill's alleged dropkick went over. "Alleged"? Well yes, anyone who watched the game would know he missed. The drop attempt was made during an advantage and the ref brought play back to a penalty, which Hill then duly converted.

Strange was the only one to successfully drop kick and THAT was his first successful drop-kick with Bristol, taken after 17 phases of play of exceptional Bristol tight play as the last kick of the game, so under immense pressure.

That gaff aside...

When is Andy Robinson going to wake up and smell the coffee? Dan Ward-Smith was obviously playing far and above what Corry has to offer. Come on, he's the best 8 in the country. Maybe the 6 Nations will be his debut, but 4 games too late. Of course, with AR's track record, DWS will be selected and asked to play hooker.

Great game Bris'. Awful conditions for both teams. A helluvah nail-biting local derby. BRILLIANT! What a fantastic TEAM!

Have to say LeamingtonBabber I too watched the game on Sky and (I was the better side of a bottle of wine) but I could swear Hill dropped a goal that stood instead of the pen that the ref was awarding.I may be wrong!!
On another point altogether and not wishing to be too triumphalist (well played Glaws by the way)as a Bristol supporter of many years standing it's sooo nice to have all those guys who deserted us when times were bad come back to the Memorial and be made aware of the error of their ways.Bailey,Brown,Ryan and that's just from last night.

Well, just checked the replay.

I have to apologise BBC. There WAS a Hill drop-kick awarded taking the score to 11 points for Bristol.

I guess it must have been me in the bar?

Strangely, the Bris' site summary at the end of its report records Hill as having two penalties and no drops, though the commentary says one was a drop.

Maybe we were ALL in the bar?

Early celebration.

Sorry Beeb!

So proud of the boys!!! Tense game but great when the final whistle came! Dan has to have his chance in the 6 nations. Here's hoping we build on this!!

Listened to the match on BBC Radio Glos , great game had me on the edge of my seat in the final seconds . You cannot rely on penalties to win a game, looking forward to the home game although I am told it will not be at Kingsholm but a neutral venue due to the new stand being built.

Well done Briz - you were good value for the win on Friday night - and for topping the table. I reckon it was as good a game as it could have been in those conditions - and I thought Glaws had just about done enough to win.

But credit to Jason Strange - and his team mates for keeping the ball alive and available for him -the game was there to be won by either side right up to the final whistle and Briz did just that. I could see exactly what they were trying to do - and they executed it very well.

Don't begrudge you your try Mr Regan - even though Dan Ward -Smith was blatantly offside at the ruck that led to it. Was very clear on Sky but, as we all know, if the referee (and the touch judges ??) didn't see it - then it didn't happen. I've seen Glaws benefit from "oversights" like that in the past so no hard feelings - you takes your lucky breaks when they come.

Thought Mike Tindall had an excellent game and coming back to form like that he must be a contender for the England 13 shirt.

Enjoy the view from the top of the table Briz - you've earned it. But keep glancing over your shoulder because we're not far behind !!! winkeye

Brizzle Boys

Absolutely gutted for DWS tonight. Hope he is OK and back playing soon (but not before next weekend against Scotland - we'd rather have Corrywinkeye

Looks like our last home game against you will be played at Ashton Gate. Let's hope the game means something to both teams.
